"Rest UP..." - Motivation Moment #23
It's Sunday all around the world.
For some, they choose to sleep in till late, laze about in their PJ's all day and catch up on episodes of their fav sitcoms, etc. Or if you are like many Aussies they head out for a late brunch at their local cafe, have a Bar-Bie (BBQ), go to the Beach and just get out for some sunlight, fresh air or an easy walk along their favourite trail.
Whatever your choice... it is really important to allow your body REST.
I guess that's why God in His Wisdom created the Sabbath Day or a Rest Day (like our weekends) so that we can Relax and Rejuvenate as well.
Over the last 3 Full Days (each day from morning till 10.30pm)...we were at the PlanetShakers Conference 2018 in Melbourne city and we had such an amazing time just being in the presence of God and His People. It was really Rejuvenating and we felt that our my Mind, Body and Spirit were Refreshed!
And even with that, my family decided to take a Lazy Sunday to Rest.
Here are 3 Key Reasons Why REST is important...
1. Rest re-fuels us.
Imagine driving for 5 hours straight without a stop-over... it is really tiring for the Driver, let alone the passengers -- who might want a little bit of a stretch or toilet break as well). And what about the car as well? The car may need to be re-fueled. Many of us drive our minds and bodies so much that we forget that we actually need to get re-charged.
2. Rest prevents burnout.
There's a physical, emotional, mental and even spiritual demand on our lives when we choose to go at neck-break speeds all the time in our work, at home or even our businesses. Burnout may be lurking, and when it occurs... we don't often realize it -- just like anxiety or depression. When it hits, it hits! So to prevent burnout, we need to know our levels of stretch-ability and our response-rate to come back.
3. Rest reconnects us to relationships.
In our busyness we make be just doing, doing, doing and really not being, being, being. After all we are all called human-beings for a reason right? Are we really present with our key relationships? To listen in, to be asking the right questions, to really lock in on some areas before it is too late, to care in a deeper level, to love and laugh, etc.
When REST is won back into our lives, we are saving the best of ourselves for the best outcomes in our lives.
I believe, REST actually accelerates us vs. slows us down. It sounds ironic but it's true. Do you agree? :)
Will you take time to REST UP this Sunday?
Do it for the people around you. Do it for you.
