Montreal's Murals #5
This is my 1000th post!
Today's Graffi-Trip takes us on the Rue Masson, and then at the schools in Saint-Michel & Ahuntsic, which is my own district. The directions taken are from west to east on Masson street and going up north with the school circuit. Half of the murals in this post have disappeared from the walls on which they used to be, but still I've added below the pictures, what was their locations for you to click on.
RUE MASSON
We start by looking at the magic of a nursery, illustrated by little elves on the wall.
Making a 180 degree turn, we can see another graffiti on the opposite side of the street. Now we are looking at something appealing to the old people after eyeing a painting that is interesting for the young ones. They both have in common that they are fun & games: fantasy & role-play for the kids, Bingo for the older generation.
Now after crossing the Boulevard Saint-Michel, we enter the Promenade Masson. The Promenade Masson is one out of many of Montreal's SDCs. SDC stands for Société de Développement Commercial. They are non-profit organizations banding together business owners from certain commercial areas. In exchange for an annual fee, they organize and promote activities for the purpose of the economic development of its members as a group. Events animation & security during sidewalk sales; street decorations at specific times of the year; promotions & other services to its members; are all examples of what they bring to businesses communities such as the one on Rue Masson.
This one is obviously on a bicycle store. It's my favorite of Montreal's Murals #5. Unfortunately, it was replaced by another work of art. Fortunately, the replacement is as pretty as the old art piece shown here. Go click & see for yourself the newer artwork sight.
Is this René Lévesque, the ever cigarette in hand Quebec politician?
Throughout my graffitis safaris I have notice that vandalism acts like a plague to the street art wildlife. Its as if, everywhere that beautiful art has the potential to captivate the curious eyes, there is a good chance it will also attract deleterious scribbles. Here are the two perfect examples of how vandals can turn a lovely drawing into a scratched depiction.
SCHOOLS TOUR
Saint-Michel
First, we stop at the École Marie-Rivier.
That is the same school, but on the other side/street, and on a second building.
Nearby the École Marie-Rivier primary school, there is the École Louis-Joseph-Papineau high school.
Ahuntsic
We end up at the École Louis-Colin elementary school.
