Kecak at Uluwatu

So, I finally caught the 'Kecak' dance drama at Uluwatu ~ Bali, Indonesia

Is it very much different from the one I saw at Tanah Lot?

Yes!

It is bigger
It is within sight of the sea and sunset - hence more of the elements are there to be absorbed
The crowd is humongous! Which adds to the atmosphere, if you look on the bright side of things
(and I refuse to look the other side... for this post anyway)
Even the chants are different - more melodious...
Hanuman was great - in my humble opinion...
The bigger group of male performers/singers DO make a difference... as I loved the arms and hands waving en masse

Hence, these scrapbook shots - merely grabs of scenes, visions... - pay testimony to the performance of this group which play a major part of this show

They provide the chants and songs to the performance, they are ever-present, encircling the stage, taking centre-stage in a huge circle, rising, falling... or re-grouping in smaller groups, and even when stepping back...

To set the mood... to emphasise the drama... the rush
The performers encircle a central character, reaching out towards him

That being done, now we can move backwards a little to where it begins...

A priest blesses the performers before the show
Sprinkling holy water onto them

That done, the show begins
Orchestrated movements... synchronised waves...
