I think is a great way for everyone to discover new music!
So without further ado, my 5 picks for this week:
1. Phir Le Aaya Dil - Barfi
I was driving last week and my playlist was on shuffle. And this song played. I haven't heard this in a while and it gave me the chance to appreciate this piece of brilliance once again. Swanand Kirkire is the lyricist and Arijit Singh is the singer of the song, music is given by Pritam Chakraborty - All 3 done brilliantly.
This is a Ghazal format song and hence the lyrics and the feel with which they are sung are very important. The way both are executed just fill you with so much emotion. And the modern touch to the music gives it another dimension altogether - the pads, synths, guitar licks and drums with the tabla - and when that piano solo drops in suddenly 😍Magic! ✨
2. Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
This is such a badass live performance! That singing is super hard to do while drumming. All the songs sound sick AF. Just watch it I tell you. Just watch it!
3. Snarky Puppy - Lingus (We Like It Here)
Haaaave you heard Snarky Puppy? 🐶
This instrumental jazz collective is out of the world. Lingus is my favourite song from them. If for nothing else, just for that Keyboard solo by Cory Henry. It's jaw-dropping! Trust me you've never seen something like this. Also Bass lick at 1:36 👏🏽
They came to India last year and I cruse myself everytime for missing it!
4. P.Y.T. - Jacob Collier
And since we are talking about jazz, this young prodigy is taking over the world. If you haven't heard about Jacob, you are missing a phenomenon! This cover of P.Y.T just blew me away! And when I saw the Quincy Jones cameo, I was like whaaaaaaa 😱
Jacob's IHarmU sessions are something to look out for on his channel!
5. Don't Let Me Down - Vintage Gospel Soul Chainsmokers Cover ft. Rayvon Owen
My dream is to sing this cover like this someday! What a version of this song! I think I like it better than the original, coz I always end up listening to this one. Rayvon Owen has such a smooth voice. This actually feels like a gospel song!
You can even post in the comments and let me know.
