My 2 new AMD RX480 mining cards arrivedsteemCreated with Sketch.

Hey Steemians,

Another bright day in the crypto space and even tho i also invest in cryptocurrencies what really gets me going is being able to do stuff with hardware. I have always been interested in computer hardware as along as i can remember (Build my self a custom water-cooled pc 2 years ago just because i wanted to have the experience of building one) and being able to combine that passion with cryptocurrencies its just amazing.

So if you have been following me you know that I'm in the process of building me an AMD mining rig so I will end up with 1 AMD and 1 Nvidia rig.

Overview of the hardware i recently got you can find in this post:

For an more in-depth look at the Motherboard check this post out:

Backstory

A little bit of history and why i choose to go with the RX480 4gb, and the simple answer is it was the cheapest! At the time of buying them the RX470 was actually more expensive then the RX480 so it did't make sense to pick up RX470s. ROI or return of investment is an important factor to take in consideration when building your self a mining rig and the i will talk more about that in a separate post because there's a lot to talk about.

  • RX470 4gb - 2190 NOK ($262 dollars)
  • RX480 4gb - 1999 NOK ($239 dollars)

So i went with the RX480 of course since that will also give the highest resell value if i plan to sell them in the future .

Overview

There isn't much in the box more then the Card it self and then 1 dual 6pin to 8pin connector and drivers and warranty card.

The fans are actually detachable for some reason, maybe if you want to run it quiet? which could be cool if you plan to use it in a HTPC or something where you only need passive cooling. Not a necessary feature for me but hey its always nice with options.

Final words

I have just done some quick test with Ethereum and I got around 21Mh/s out of the box with these cards which is "ok" but not great. Since yesterday I have switched to start mining Digibyte on all of my mining Cards and will do that for a few days at least.
With Digibyte i get around 35 MH/s.

And as for the power consumption the whole system takes around 240 watts with the 2 cards mining.

Hi timmy can you give me the command for mining DGB at suprnova?

of course sir, if you are using SGMiner and AMD its

setx GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR 0
setx GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_SINGLE_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
sgminer.exe -I 20 -g 4 -w 128 -k myriadcoin-groestl --no-submit-stale -o stratum+tcp://dgbg.suprnova.cc:7978 -u WORKER.x -p x

and for Nvidia cards and CCminer its :

ccminer.exe --algo=myr-gr -o stratum+tcp://dgbg.suprnova.cc:7978 -u WORKER.x -p x

Finally it worked, i don't know why suprnova is not showing the commands properly! thanks a lot and BTW can you believe that i can't find an RX 480 available here in Algeria?! :/

whaat really? :( is the PC part market small in Algeria ?

Yeah it's small plus the demand is huge atm, everybody discovered BTC mining here lol.

Sounds like you have a business opportunity there hehe, Import and sell :D

You are right indeed, im thinking about having an import/export registry soon! but it's not that easy.

My I know where do you get the money to buy all these cards???

It's Savings, cryptocurrency trading and mining

How long do these typically last and do you get a warranty with them?

Hey, yes the come with warranty and that depends on the market and country what the warranty is. I believe here it's like 2 years minimum warranty by law then manufactures can have longer if they want but i could be wrong. As for them lasting, if you don't overclock and have them running 24/7 they should last for a few years.
