A picture of a new billboard at LAX had me laughing. My first thought was it better had been a pepperoni from Papa John's but had me curious of the type of product or service the billboard was advertising.

At first, I typed the web address incorrectly. I forgot the dash(-) in the web address and thought "Wow this is an unprofessional site" when I arrived at the wrong destination. I then noticed my error and typed the address correctly www.giga-watt.com.

Giga-Watt is the world's first full-service mining solution provider. The company provides "equipment sales, maintenance, and repair to private blockchain servicing", according to its site. If you buy your mine through Giga-Watt there is no setup fee for the mine. There is a daily hosting charge that includes a rental fee of the facility, electricity costs, and 24/7 maintenance of the mine. The company will also be offering a token ICO that gives the buyer the benefit of not paying a facility rental fee or the option to rent the tokens for a fee you decide on. Further info can be found here in regard to the token ICO, as I will not dive deeply into the token.

The site advertises its electricity costs at 2.8 cents per kilowatt hour. There is a handy chart showing the average costs of electricity around the world and their rate seems extremely competitive. If you click on the Miners Tab in the top right-hand corner of the main page, the four miners the company offers for sale is displayed. The user can click the number of miners desired by type and calculate the costs of hosting and compare it to the number of coins produced by the mine to acquire an estimation of profitabilty. The user can choose to calculate costs vs coins mined in USD, BTC, ETH, or LTC. There are 4 miners offered for sale. There are two miners offered to mine BTC, one for LTC, and one for ETH.

The hosting costs decrease in relation to the size of the mine operation ran. There are four categories of mine: Starter, Self Miner, Small Facility, and Mining Farm. The minimum number of mines to get started is one and the scalability is to over 100+ mines. The company will allow for an overall max of 70,000 mines at their facility.

Giga-watt also offers an option to have your personally owned mines to be hosted by them. No costs are given and you must contact them with the type of miner you own and a sales representative will contact you. An additional service for repairs is offered if your miner should break down. There is also no specific cost given for this service. I have reached out to the company with an email in regard to repair costs and if any warranty is offered for a miner purchased through them. I will post their response in the Reply section of this blog.

EMAIL: Upon reviewing your site I noticed you offer an add-on paid option of emergency equipment repairs. The cost of service depends on the nature of performed repairs. How would one receive an estimate of this add-on option? Additionally, is there any type of warranty offered with a mine bought from your company? Approximately, how long will a mine last?

There is a chart of costs and max capacity of miners different services offer in comparison to Giga-Watt.

Dear lexikon082,

We apologize for not getting back to you: We have checked every single one of our e-mail addresses and could not locate your e-mail. We are happy to answer your questions here.

The hosting fee does not depend on whether you bought your equipment from us – you are welcome to host your own miners for the same hosting fee, with only one difference: We charge setup fee to host your own miners. The setup fee amounts for each type of miners are specified in the order form.

Current repair costs:

  • blade repair: $100/piece
  • miner control deck repair: $100/piece
  • mechanical elements repair: $50/piece

Equipment manufacturers routinely offer warranty for their miners. However, repair/replacement of parts under warranty usually takes awhile because of the manufacturer's overseas location. In case of miners, it is usually expedient to have repairs done on site in order not to miss out on mining rewards. It is up to you: You are welcome to send your miners to third party service centers.

Effective lifecycle of a miner depends on the specific miner type: For example, bitcoin miners are usually cost effective until the next halving of block rewards (open source calculators abound).

We hope we have answered your questions to your satisfaction. Should you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to send them to [email protected]. We will be happy to assist you in any way we can.
