Why 24 karat Gold Instead of Silver For Jewelry
Why 24 karat Gold Instead of Silver.
It’s time to ruin a perfectly fine, mint condition American Silver Eagle!
After some research I found the best way to ruin silver is to...
Hard boil some eggs!
With lots of SSSTEEEM!
Hard boiling eggs is a bit of a process:
Ect.
We are using our eggs on...
A shiny ASE:
A 42% Not Gold ring ( 14k)
A 100% Not Gold ring ( chocolate)
A Menē 24 karat Gold ring
We cut the eggs in half and placed them on top of the candidates:
Wrap everything up:
Note the time:
I had no idea how long this would take. I thought I would leave the eggs over night and see what happened.
In about 15 minutes I started noticing a change! I held out for 1 full hour before taking the eggs off the candidates.
It was a little treacherous to navigate the kitchen at this time vs. an hour previous. Mrs. Goldmatters was making dinner and was slightly less on board with the experiment. I survived, but barely. The things I do for Steemit...
All the candidates turned out okay, even the chocolate.
All of them that is...except for the silver!
This is a bit of a heartbreaker to look at:
But we probably all knew how this would turn out:
Normally we don’t intentionally tarnish silver, and there is nothing wrong with owning silver (*In fact I acquired a very large position today!) , it just doesn’t have the special properties that gold has that make for the best jewelry. The silver started oxidizing within 15 minutes. Gold does not interact with oxygen and will never oxidize.
The Menē 24 karat gold ring was not effected at all from the experiment. The 24 karat gold did what does gold does. It just sits there, preserving your purchasing power, stable and inert. This is what you want from your gold jewelry, a true investment!

What is Menē 24k gold and platinum investment jewelry?
I will let famous Steemian @coruscate explain:
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
Thanks SSG
.
That is so true.
I started systematically buying silver at just 100 dollars a month a few years ago, because it was all I could afford. I think I will start stacking gold now too, in small amounts. I wish I could buy an ounce per month.
Awesome!! With a Goldmoney account you could incrementally buy either :)
Thank you. I’ll look into that!
Never
This is a great experiment, in years to come, someone will find this post on internet, then thank the Lord they'd.
I hope so :)
because gold is forever. that's why gold really matters ❤️❤️❤️
That is absolutely true
The reality is that gold has been around for over 5,000 years while empires have come and gone which have led to economic boom and busts. Gold remains as the consistent store of wealth amongst many other uses. A portion of a person's wealth should be in gold no matter what the situation.
Agree completely!
I am not sure about the chemistry but there was some serious oxidation by eggs of all things!
Menē came out on top! No surprises there. 24K is definitely he way to go.
It is all the sulfer in the eggs that does it. I can only imagine what it would have looked like after 24 hours
All the engravings would be gone definitely.
Lesson learnt is that you better not corrupt a noble metal like gold. If so, then you better not buy it. If bought, regret and loss would be your lot.
;-)
Wow!!
What an interesting experiment, I'm tempted to try it at home, its just that Mom will surely be displeased.😂
Thanks @goldmatters for this interesting piece. Mene Gold all the way👍👍
Ha ha yeah it was fun
Haha...yep, we are all boiling eggs right now 😁
You just have to try this one at home, I think!
That was fun and pretty amazing though, how quickly the silver reacted @goldmatters! I had all faith in the Mene 24k Gold though. Nothing will change pure gold, not even a million years in the elements.
Thats for sure!
Gotta love the special shine of gold! Silver is definitely beautiful (and great to have) but it will never be regarded as gold, just because of the shine factor.
Thanks for reading:)
Thanks for sharing the experiment!
