Ghostbusting the GLD Ghost with Mene 24k

There are a few differnt GLD’s we talk about here on Steemit.

One of my least favorite is the SPDR gold shares. It’s an inferior way to own gold and im not quite sure why anyone would buy them. Basically you own the GLD as a security (stock) and each share is supposed to represent 1\10th the price of gold and sort of have a gold backing.

In some ways its appropriate because both the GLD SPDR shares and this charm appear to have very little actual gold in them.

Since we dont know the exact percentage of gold in the plating, we can’t do the direct comparison but im going to go ahead and say its less than 1 gram, likely less than .50 gram, and probably less than .25 grams.

Gold plating is an EXTREMELY thin layer of gold on the outer layer of an item, even less gold than the 14k gold we often make comparisons by a very large margin.

I have a hard time getting these words out but... gold plating makes 10k gold look good in comparison.

All this to say that we can reasonably and confidently say that this 24 karat gold Mene Ghost Charm weighing in at over 3 grams of pure gold completely busts the GLD:

This is because Mene does not insert subjective value into its pieces, but rather goes by gram weight x the current metal prices with a clear design fee that never exceeds 20%.
