💙MARKET FRIDAY 💙 GARDENS CONTINENTAL BUTCHERY 💙

cover working file.jpg

Market Friday is hosted by the wonderful @dswigle. I first Denise back in June last year when I joined Steemit, and started chatting with her on Discord. I was so delighted to find out that she had been to my country and was familiar with my culture. We connected instantly, and when I saw her doing her tag #MarketFriday , I made note to try and enter it whenever I could. It's a great way to take a trip around the world without even leaving your sofa.

My entry for this weeks #MarketFriday is a little German butchery in my neighbourhood. This butchery might be small but it is an iconic piece of Capetonian history and culture.

We first discovered Uwe the German butcher when we moved in around the corner almost ten years ago. My hubby @morkrock is biltong obsessed. Biltong is like beef jerky, but a million times better.

Here's South African pop culture idol, Suzelle (who is actually a parody) explaining how to make biltong. She's hilarious

Any way, I digress. AGAIN!

The butchery has some of the weirdest decor I have ever seen, with blue and yellow walls and fishing nets all over the place. Don't ask

They have all types of meats and sausages, but specialise in biltong, droewors (a special kind of dried and cured sausage - my fave is the aniseed and warthog) and game meat.

Tonight I saw some Kudu fillet, so I want to find a recipe to experiment with that contains Kudu. He also has Warthog, Eland and other game meat. I have seen duck and guinea fowl too.

The butcher and shop owner, Uwe, is from the Baltic Sea region of Germany, and I just love visiting him. He is so friendly and cool. He has a really funny way about him, is just a lot of fun.

I wanted to take a pic of him in his shop, but he insisted @morkrock be in the pic too. So now I am jealous that I didn't get a pic with Uwe too!

check his photo on the wall in the background - lolz

Let's see your entries for #MarketFriday! Thanks @dswigle for this awesome tag!

Great post @princessmewmew and What an awesome initiative by @dswigle!! Nothing beats not only supporting a small, local supplier - but also the quality of the goods you receive always FAR surpasses what you get in super markets!

As for Suzelle... she is legendary!!! hehehe Truly one of a kind! ;)

Thanks girl. He is seriously the best, I love stopping there for some biltong

And YES to Suzelle. I love her.

That chick is a total NUTTER! hehehe :)

This was a fun post @princessmewmew!! I've heard of biltong but have never tried it. I love beef jerky so I'm sure I would love it! Looks like Uwe has an awesome shop! Terrific post and photos!!

oh it is sooo good! And its so fun as one can always switch up the flavours

I'm going to have to YT it to see how it is made. You definitely have me wanting to try some now!!

this video is so fun

Wow. Looks like my kind of place. In my experience, the Germans really know how to handle meat (my family certainly did).

He looks like a cool guy, and who knew that Mork looks so good in plaid flannel? He'd fit right in the northern tier of this country!

Thanks for a great look at a unique shop.

Oh, aren't you such a doll! Thank you! I loved your post about Uwe and his shop! Now, that decor is certainly unique. I am sure there is a good story behind it. I know, a story for another blog.

You must!

I love biltong and I really should try to make it myself. I have a dehydrator, I wonder if I can use that instead of a box. ;) As for Suzelle, the woman is hysterical. I have seen her before, but, I will never tire of her. She just cracks me up.

Warthog? I'm intrigued. Seriously.

I must compliment you on the way you set up your posts. I find the recommended reading section such a nice way to introduce an awesome blog and I may have to figure out a way to incorporate something like that without actually copying.

It's brilliant! I love it!

Thank you again for joining #MarketFriday! South Africa has its own flavor and I love when you share it!

***Please leave the link to your post in my #MarketFriday comment section so it can easily be found by others. They will all be in one place. Where else can you take such a quick trip around the globe? Thank you! ❤

Upped and Steemed

Tip! I just ran out of money, honey! Boo!

Meat, meat and more meat!!! I want to visit this shop! @morkrock was telling me all about these meat treats when I was working with him a couple weeks ago and I was making jerky. I am so impressed that you got him in the picture!!! Way to go!! Great pic @morkrock!! Looking good friend!

WOW....just the sort of shop i would love to be buying all my meat products i would go absolutely berserk in there all what i like with some olives and cut up tomatoes to go with it and some cheese of cause...lol :)

That is the trendiest looking butchery I have ever seen!

Did I mention that I hate biltong? I tried to bring myself to like it, I really tried hard, but no :(

Fascinating place! Looks like a collection of all kinds of strange stuff in there, and some delicious food, too. If only I could come over for one of your scrumptious dinners. ;-)
