Fireworks To Usher In The Metal RatsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #marketfriday5 years ago

Today is the eve of Chinese New Year. In minutes, the fireworks are going to usher in the Year of the Metal Rat. The skies will light up, colours will burst into the heavens above, it will be loud and we will welcome it even if it will go way past midnight.

I had considered buying some fireworks too. At one point it was banned because there had been many incidents and accidents. This year, according to this news portal, 36 have been allowed and 9 more with conditions. So, today for @dswigle's #marketfriday I decided to take a walk to look see as most celebrating would be getting ready for one of the most important events for the new year. The Reunion Dinner that happens on the eve.

I got there at about 4pm and most shops were closed as expected. But this one in the corner was bustling. As I got closer, yes they were selling fireworks.

This is a big that cost over RM200. And there were even bigger ones.

They had a variety and patrons had baskets they were filling up with their choice of fireworks.

As it was the last day, and fireworks is a big part of CNY, the seller regaled us with stories of how amazing the fireworks were and even had videos to show us.

All the fireworks had the warning notice as a reminder. Some kids(perhaps even adults) would pile them up to make a big a** explosion. Which was the reason why they were banned for some time. But what is a celebration without fireworks, so now it comes with a warning and also public service announcements to be cautious..

They came in all shapes and sizes. Sticks, triangles, cones.

Even in the shape of a hen... oh, wait!! That's a "peacock". And no, we didn't get any as there was no way I was going to light any of these... yes, I am big time chicken. And I couldn't get The Hubs to find out, if he would be back in time to help me light them.

Then we walked around some more. Most of the stalls were closed or closing. But some still had their stuff on display. Like these hampers.

Of course, there were tonnes of Mandarin Oranges on sale. These boxes piled high were going at RM10 a box.

A couple of the boxes were open so we could see the oranges were still good. We got one of these to eat.

And then we drove home on the quiet streets of the town which was heavenly. And now, with just minutes away from midnight, I am going to take a quick shower, put on something red and wait for the fireworks to go crazy.

Taking this opportunity to wish everyone a very Prosperous New Year.

Cheers,

May all your wishes come true!!!

You got good fireworks there! I still have a few leftover from Halloween I prolly use for a birthday coming up or something :)

Yes, it was crazy last night with all these fireworks popping off
But it will be even louder when the Hokkien New Year comes around which will be on the 9th day of the Lunar calendar... haha

Fireworks for a birthday... that would make it extra special ;D

Well, that peacock sure looks like a chicken to me! Ha ha!

I thought so too haha

You are amazing! Thank you @kaerpediem for braving the town and showing off the booth upon booth upon booth of fireworks! Wow! There are so many of them and I agree with you.

People like to stack them up so hight to get the biggest, loudest bang for their blowout New Year. I will light them off, but, I don't like to. They are dangerous and every year, they have hundreds and hundreds of people who go into the Emergency room at the hospitals because of fireworks. So, I am glad you didn't buy any!

Thank you for your time and energy to put this together! It was fun! I hope you have a great day!

#MarketFriday loves you!

That is true of the accidents
Still so many because ... I guess we think it won't happen to us
But we did buy some a couple of days later.
Mild ones like sparklers and pop-pops( the ones you throw on the floor and there's a pop) and one that I wouldn't buy again...
The one that scared me because from starting out mild, suddenly it was going off like there's no tomorrow.
But all's good and the boys did have some fun

You are most welcome, and I am so happy you enjoyed it <33
