Out The Door Before The Sun Crested The Horizon

First stop... got there before the doors unlocked at 6AM

It was time for my bi-weekly grocery stock-up trip and I have been seeing so many #marketfriday posts lately on steemit, I was ready to join the ranks of those members sharing their shopping excursions and experiences.

This tag was started by @dswigle and I am thrilled to have my first post today.

Last night we had rain, changing to sleet then finally snow flurries. Nothing in the amount of an accumulation, but still... winter has arrived. The winds were whipping and howling all night long. Nothing stuck to the ground; only on the cars and deck.

Groceries & Other Things

After picking up a few things from the produce department, I headed to the cheese counter. I usually look for cheeses that are the ends or mis-shaped at a reduced cost. But nothing yet today. Must be too early for the cheese people to have it out.

But I did pick up a wedge of Aged Asiago for a snack later tonight.
One of these days I am going to learn to make more than just ricotta cheese. I saw the other day someone had made 15 balls of mozzarella cheese and I was so envious! One day, oh yes, I will take the cheese making plunge into the mozzarella dream.

Since I had the store to myself and the employees were busy either waking up, drinking coffee or stocking shelves, I moseyed over to the kitchenwares' section. I rarely buy things here, but it is nice to just look and see what they have.

Today I saw a GREAT price on this glass storage container. I was tempted, but eventually passed after talking myself out of it. They would have been perfect for my flour and sugar on the counter.

Shopping done! Onto the next stop

Family, Farm & Home

I have never been to this store before and have been curious about checking it out. Today seemed to be as good as a day as any. So let's go inside!

The main reason I wanted to visit this store was because I have been in search of fish emulsion for my indoor winter garden and most stores here have already put that part of their gardening section stock away for the year. I have little desire to make my own, although I have researched the recipe, but am shying away from doing it if possible.

But I did find some things that I wanted to share.

Seedling peat pods that I have always bought in bulk or boxes of a few dozen. I never knew you could just buy one or two. but in reality.. what's the point of that? One or two? Laughable to me!

Maybe one day I will invest in a smoker. This one was kind of nice. Decently priced for $100

Oh now here is a business I missed out on when my son was raising chicken broilers years ago! I could have been the chicken *$#! queen of the county!

Final Stop

Time for some paper products at the Walgreens. But I stopped to look at the Halloween items still on mark down.

WOULD YOU look at THAT PRICE??? $20 regular price for a coffee mug? Even at $10 on sale I would never buy a coffee or travel mug for that price. This is RIDICULOUS in my mind. I can't wrap my head around it or conceive this!

So, there you go... my first marketfriday contribution. EVERYONE have a great weekend!

I did try those little seedling pots this year but with only middling success. Keeping them at the right level of dampness was tricky.

They are called Jiffy7's here in the UK - I think they are the same thing.

Yes we have Jiffy here too.
I had about 95% success with the peat pods this year. I was thrilled with it.

Not sure why they sell them individually though. Seems kind of senseless to me. Then again I am a person who will plant 100-150 pods at a time.

Those are for people like me with a balcony garden in pots. Not enough room to plant dozens of plants. ;)
Also, The Cheese People sound like good people ...lol. I worship at their cheesy counter of nom. Last night I picked up the end piece off a block of muenster. Om nom nom!

That is true about the limited gardening space.

Yes, the Cheese People are wonderful!
Muenster is one of our staple cheeses to munch on. We fight over the edges sprinkled with the salty goodness of paprika!

I like to go shopping early like you too. There are so many benefits to do it early, I can find a parking spot, no wait in line, no bumping in with carts..

Wonderful entry for #marketfriday!

LOL- oh yes! I practically had the first store all to myself!
Being the introvert that I am these early morning shopping trips are perfect for me

I wish everyday is friday just see these wonderful experience.

I have been enjoying reading the #marketfriday posts for a couple of weeks now and this week I was determined to join in on the fun.
I have to say, it was fun to do and write

Do more next friday

I have it already scheduled for my Friday morning out. I may even add a few more stops.

I am so glad you joined the ranks of #MarketFriday! I think we are a fun bunch who try to come up with zany places or our regular grocery. You just never know where it will bring you.

Some of the homesteaders wanted to take us through their shopping experience in the homesteading way of life. Perfect. Sounds awesome.

I love going to the market early too. The closest one to me is open 24/7 and If I am up beyond midnight Steeming or something, I may go then and have to entire store to myself too.

I like your style

Oh, those coveted cheese ends! We all look for them! Cheese and an apple. Yummy. I laughed when I saw that chicken #$*! Really? Somebody turned that into a business? Unbelievable.

I need cases of those peat pods. I don't have a balcony. All in all, I loved riding shotgun with you and getting all the business done bright and early!! Thank you for joining us in #MarketFriday and I look forward to seeing you again!

Upvoted and I will Resteem later today! tip!

OH yeah!!! The "homesteading way" for marketfriday would be awesome!!
Going to out on my thinking cap for that one!

Cheese ends are the BEST!

And yeah.. chicken manure! Homesteaders are laughing at that one!

I would love one ! Haphazard Homesteader and I were talking about one - more is always welcome! No different than a market where you pay. :)

I went to the Mother Earth News Fair in Pennsylvania a little over a month ago and it was darn near a religious experience! They brought up the chicken manure also and I thought they would fall off their chairs. :)

Thanks again! You did awesomely!

Very good post just like the one before Goldy!

These "Seedling peat pods" that you are talking about are also called "Jiffies" in the growing scene.

I always put seeds in batting with 2-3 drops of water and let them sprout in there. Then when the root was long enough I would put them carefully into a hole in the earth that I have sprayed with water 2-3 times.

I have had gardens in the past, but NEVER to this extent. I read so much about when to do this, how to prune, possible nutrient and watering schedules, etc. I have basically thrown myself feet first into producing a healthy garden for a healthier lifestyle.

The Jiffies or peat pods are one of the BEST gardening inventions! I have so many here. A local hardware and do-it-all store about 10 miles from me had them on sale a few months ago so I swooped in and scooped up about 200 pods; already planning for next year. They are a "no muss, no fuss" seedling growing system that I have come to appreciate.

So what? Sounds fucking great. You keep yourself busy with a great hobby. I like to work with and in nature as well.

Growing Cannabis indoors 3 years ago was one of the most fun things I ever did. Besides that, I spent a lot of time in nature as well.

It is pretty great! I do enjoy the solitary time and the way it reduces stress. A win-win for me.

Too cold here right now to enjoy the great outdoors. Barely 15-degrees and I am SO not going outside yet.

It is very cold yes.

Take cold showers and go outside anyway. It will help you to stay healthy and it will toughen you up.
