#MarketFriday <> Challenge or Contest (Proposal)
A suggestion for my friend Denise and her friends ...
What is it about?
One of the most interesting challenges I know is #MarketFriday initiated by Denise, namely @dswigle.
Every week, on Friday, many enthusiastic people post about their shopping experience.
The Proposal
I first make a proposal to Denise, the initiator and coordinator of this challenge.
The proposal is to turn this challenge into CONTEST.
I propose some rules that of course can be modified or improved by Denise. Also, proposals from participants can come (if Denise accepts).
Some simple rules ...
- Every Friday @dswigle to make a post about the contest, its rules and requirements.
- On this post will comment everyone who wants to participate in the contest and put their #MarketFriday post link (as they do now).
- They will vote the post.
The Prize
Can be just one prize or more, that's what Denise has to decide. All the money won by this contest post is the prize.
How to choose the winner
My proposal is for the winner to be nominated by all participants by vote. All participants have to see the other posts and vote the best (not voting for himself, of course). This makes it possible to establish a ranking.
Also, everyone must vote the post they chose the best.
Why contest?
First of all, the idea of competition always attracts. It will revive the competition and attract new entrants. In the beginning, the prize will be small but this will not matter, the participants will be more pleased with the recognition of the value of their posting.
Benefits
- Participants will be encouraged to make better, valuable posts as a result of the competition
- Increasing interaction among participants, each will read the posting of others.
- Increasing the number of participants
- As the number of participants grows, the value of the prizes will also increase, attracting even more participants.
How come this idea
I was among the winners of a contest initiated by @anomadsoul. CONTEST: My 2018: A tour around my town - 100 SBD in Prizes. More than 300 entries and more than $ 1,500 in rewards! There were 25 winners, each rewarded with 6 SBDs. You can check here: My 2018: A tour around my town - 100 SBD in Prizes
If in a little while #MarketFriday would offer similar prizes (or bigger!) ... or maybe will be just more fun!
Epilog
wow excellent idea !
Thanks! You are the first which says Yes. It remains to be seen if @dswigle agrees.
I initiated #MarketFriday when I came at the end of June. Many times, I have considered as to whether I wanted to turn it into a contest or not. I will tell you the honest truth. One of the biggest things I was against was that request to upvote and many times resteem the post. I did not feel right about that. I have been on the end of the spectrum with no voting power or little. Pathetic, but, true.
I have to admit, it is one of the hardest challenges there is because of the thinking ahead and making sure your stage is set. Every week, something different.
We are actually very fortunate in this challenge. As I requested, everyone puts their link in the post. I honestly believe there is a lot of interaction between people. I have witnessed more people visiting each other and this is a nice slow development. Such as friendships made over time are more lasting, here also. Her today, gone tomorrow... there are those too. We have a great core group here that never miss a week. If you look at any Market Friday, there are always 150 to 200 comments on the post. Many of the weeks, it is featured on the Hit Parade for the most comments (usually # 8 or 10)
I am not disagreeing with you, I am playing devil's advocate.
Now, onto voting. I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I have watched peer voting turn into a popularity contest, where friends vote for friends. You laugh. It happens all the time. Which would leave up to me or find a judge every week.
The competition does attract. I worried about that a little. Why would anyone want to do it if it was only a challenge? I do understand and trust me, you aren't saying/thinking anything I haven't run through my brain a hundred times since I have started.
I actually quit one of the challenges I did because it turned into a contest and my work is not competitive enough, so I don't do it now that it is a contest.Silly, but, it is true.
I will think about it more. I had just turned myself down in November. It is exciting and it would be a great opportunity for the challenger to have another contest, I will give it more thought. Thanks for taking the time and effort to give me your thoughts.
Why I don't I think a contest would work? ... ... because of the profile of most participants, many of them your friends. I think it would not be a good change for them. A kind of club (somewhat elitist?) has formed.
Those who prefer contests are a little more desperate, wanting quick winnings.
After all, you're wondering why I made this proposal. A mistake! Theoretically, it would work, it would become interesting to see change and development. But we are on different levels here...
People are conservative and do not like the change, especially when they are happy with what they have. It's like when you think if it's good to have sex with your best friend. You do not know what will change, but surely something will change ... often in the wrong!
My post was only seen by you and @old-guys-photos. I had the intention of commenting on all posts in #marketfriday, that would have brought reciprocity and views from some of them. I do not do that anymore, so nobody will know about my involvement.
Interesting idea.
Well, thanks. Still, I thought better, I should not have done that. Involves too many changes ...
So, you put a proposal out for someone who runs a challenge (and extremely well I might add) to change THEIR challenge into something that suits YOU more. A proposal that nowhere do I read that you would even help fund or support, instead you want HER to change things to your whim so it would be better for YOU. Perhaps that was a bit forward but I honestly find this post insulting and I am not even the person that runs the challenge. I have seen @dswigle work tirelessly for hours upon hours not only creating the challenge week after week, taking pictures for it, writing for it, editing those pictures and keeping it all fresh, then add in her hours to comment, tip (out of her own pocket), respond, resteem, and more, and just thoroughly appreciate all that come out to do this challenge, and yet she is being asked to do more. I am not meaning to be mean, I just think this proposal is way off the mark and like I said kind of insulting considering what she already does and invests time doing, plus the additional elitist comment I originally saw sprinkled in above (I assume before it was edited).
I will also say as someone who has only done Market Friday like I think once myself, the over-powering support of other people who do this challenge, and look forward to this challenge who took the time to come to that ONE post of mine and comment and read it was very kind. I think it is doing just fine as a challenge and obviously, I am not the only one considering the number of people that take part in it. This is just my opinion of course, even if it does seem a bit harsh, but as you can tell I care about Denise as a friend and found this just to be too much.
Thank you for your opinion. First of all, I want to apologize, my intention was to help with my opinion on #marketfriday. I never proposed to insult Denise, much more, I am grateful for the help she has given me many times. I'm sorry that you think I proposed a change for my benefit. What would that be? The benefit would have been greater interaction between the participants, the fact that everyone would have read all the other posts in the challenge. It would have helped us get to know each other better. So I thought ... I was wrong! I did not think I would upset my colleagues in the challenge, more than Denise was upset. I am sorry! Like you, and @tattoodjay was disturbed by my initiative. Still, I've probably been wrong more than I realize, and the only solution is to go out of this challenge. This is my punishment. Thank you for helping me understand how much I did wrong. Wish you all the best!
Well my thoughts on this are
This is @dswigle challenge and she puts so much effort and Steem into it through tips and she should run it as she wishes
I personally feel suggesting the idea to her would have been fine but planning it all out with all this detail I feel is a bit rude and perhaps insulting
Market Friday is one of the most active challenges on here and I for one will support it anyway she wishes to run it but let it be her choice
Thank you for your opinion. It is very nice to support Denise. Still, no one wants to do anything wrong, much less me. If she turned this challenge into a contest, this contest would be hers. I had an idea and I passed it, I used to talk to Denise. I have seen very respectable people here organizing contests with hundreds of participants. From here came the idea. Nobody wanted to take anything from Denise, I wanted to help ... when no one asked me ... my mistake. Also, @topkpop has been offended by my initiative. The only solution for me is to go out from #marketfriday. I am sorry. I wish you well and I hope you do not have such disappointing experiences like this with me.

I'm In, thank you so much for this opportunity @bluemoob
Dan, I honestly see no reason why you must stop participating in #MarketFriday. I wish I could have sent you an email to talk about your proposal instead of it being so very public. I still want to talk to you in a private manner, not so public. If you want, you can email me.
I'm so sorry about this problem and my initiative. I will email you soon, you can delete this comment. I am far away from home and only tomorrow will have the time to write you. Thanks and forgive me for this situation. You're the last person I'd like to upset!
No worries. Not upset. Just want to talk. :)
Well, thanks. I am in Iassy(Iasi), a beautiful town in Romania, I like it more than Bucharest. My friend Beatrice(former Manager of National Opera Bucharest) is the Manager of National Opera Iasi now and invited us to the premiere of Nutcracker Ballet (the director is another friend of my wife, Ileana Iliescu, the most famous Romanian ballerina, now 80 years old!). The premiere is Sunday night and then I will go further north, see my mother and my brother. I do not know when I'll have time to post or write to you, I hope as soon as possible.
No rush, Dan. I am not going anywhere. Well, untrue. I am on vacation on another cruise and South America for a week. I will be back in mid March.
I know about your vacation. Wish you a splendid vacation!
