I hope this works or it will be back to the drawing board. The galvanised strap and some screws seemed to work well. Now it's the glues turn to do it's thing.
Thank you it actually did work pretty well but in the end I needed lots of screws for safety, I wasn't too confident about the glue. Will post results next week.

I have briefly seen this type of work. They use extra pressure for hours to retain the shape.
