OYSTER MUSHROOMS
The other day I went to a local farm in our area and took these photos of some Oyster mushrooms they had growing there. I also took some pictures of their aquaponic farm, but i'll post about that anouther day.
The latin name Pleurotus Ostreatus means "sideways oyster" which refers to the oyster-like shape of the mushroom. They come in a variety of colours such as white, yellow, pink and tan, and are found on hardwoods throughout the world in the spring and fall.
They mainly feed on dead and decaying matter from wood, but they are also one of the few carnivorous mushrooms also feeding on small roundworms and bacteria.
They are easy to cultivate and are very popular in many recipes. They also have many medicinal uses.
The other interesting thing is that they are being used to decrease pollution levels in the environment, also called mycorestoration. Where they will secrete enzymes that will break down these toxins. One day oil spills may be cleaned up with mushrooms.

Very easy to grow. I have done it a couple of times but I haven't scaled up to the bag yet. Thanks for posting.
