Steemit: A Diamond in the Rough 💎

in #love7 years ago (edited)

I think real racism does exist, and I really don't think it will ever completely go away, however it also seems as though the media and our government are doing their best to bolster the division between people, at least here in America.

I saw an article giving voice to a person before Halloween. This person's opinion made it's way into many news outlets and she basically said: If your child dresses up as Disney's Elsa, it is racist because it glorifies white beauty. Oh, and if your child dresses up as Disney's Moana, it is racist because you could be making fun of another person's culture. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4788846/activist-new-york-polynesia-disney-cartoon-costume-halloween-frozen-moana/

I personally think this woman's opinion is absurd. These are the stories that seem to do nothing but stir the pot and cause contention. Articles like this provoke one of three common reactions for anyone buying into this agenda that the media is using to tear us apart.

  1. For some white people, being truly well meaning, and caring about how they are perceived, concede that this is true. They continue to walk on eggshells in order not to offend.

  2. Other white people get on the defensive, and feel indignant, further convincing those of the other race that they are racist for defending themselves and using the costumes anyway.

  3. The other races, who feel discriminated against, pile it on to their list of offenses perpetuated by racists, and become even more offended.

It's all hashed out on Facebook, where people take sides. People have their friends and their groups, mostly people they know. They debate each other, anger is stirred up, and some are offended and unfriended. I've seen it not just concerning racism, but politics as well and it's not pretty. Every time this happens a small battle has been won by those who wish to destroy us.

Enter in Steemit. Unless I'm in a bubble, I have not come across this atmosphere or attitude here. One refreshing and unique quality of Steemit, is that it appears to have been set up to be intrinsically non divisive! I'll explain.

Say someone signs up. They are prejudice against a race of people. Maybe it was the way they were brought up, the people they were around as a child, who knows? Anyone can follow this person. Say this person writes a great post. Anyone can comment. Oftentimes you don't even know what their face looks like, and it could literally be anyone from around the world!! A stranger makes a thoughtful comment appreciating the work, and there is a moment of connection, as well as mutual respect and affection. Said person's prejudices and hatred slipped away as they see the comments of genuine individual, and a friend is made.

On the other hand, someone who feels they've been victimized or discriminated against signs up. Again, anyone can follow them. They make an excellent post and anyone!... people of all other races and walks of life make endearing and uplifting comments. This person's bitterness, resentment and suspicion melts away as they see the humanity in the comments. Friends, again, have been made.

This does not include the, "plzzz plzzz upvote me," or "follow me I follow you" posts. Haha, nobody likes them...just being honest ;)

Sure, there are some problems here, but I don't see any other social media platform having this effect. I truly believe Steemit is changing individual hearts and it needn't be overlooked!! This is an inclusive and loving place where we can all love and support each other, regardless of race, sex, background, ect. Steemit is a diamond in the rough as far as social media goes, and I thank the creators for making it this way, and I'm thankful for the wonderful people here. I hope it never ends. 😊

The joke's on us - races don't even exist. They are a figment of our collective imagination. We are ethnic groups at most, most probably even these are only definined by our normative cultures, sets of acceptable behaviors socialized into people at birth.

Don't be fooled snowpea - keep thinking freely like you do :)

I think steemit has a very cool social effect as well - and it is somehow (hard to explain) healthier than facebook and other online forums.

races don't even exist

FULLY AGREE~

Thanks for commenting @ecoinstant!! True, we are different ethnicity wise and genetically, but the way our personality turns out relies on many factors.
Steemit is much healthier than other forms of social media, albeit more addictive. ;D

All humans collectively belong to the human race. Increasingly however through the media, education and other social platforms they have started to convince people from a young age to believe that sexual orientation, weight, skin colour, religion and any other superficial difference they can think of to include, under the 'race' umbrella. The programmed response should anyone have an opinion or make comment on someone who is superficially different from them in one or a multitude of ways, (mostly based on their ethnic origins, culture, religion etc) is to immediately respond with "you are racist", when nobody speaking this automated response has the common sense to actually look up the word and it's definition and intended meaning. This trait is also by design and is part of the 'tyranny of the masses'.

Racism is when you suggest that the race you belong to is inferior to another race, or is SUPERIOR to another race based on the traits that the human race has and you either criticise your own for it's faults or you praise the human race for it's traits and criticise another race for not having at least equal qualities. I'm not aware that we have discovered another intelligent race yet or what planet they are from and as all of us in our human race are born equal it's absurd to suggest to someone of our human race is racist, because 100% of the time nobody spouting this garbage ever names the race that's being denigrated.

Our enemy works through divide and conquer and problem, reaction, solution, this bastardization of terms that have a very set historical meaning and context is designed to create a problem, that being to divide us by pointing out superficial differences instead of us realising and being taught what makes us the same. This division therefore causes a social problem. The reaction is to convince people to speak out and label those that have an opinion under a misconstrued and inappropriate term (the fashionable one currently being 'racist') and therefore they offer a solution which suggests to those in the populous that it's for the benefit of society, when really it's just to put into place something they wanted in the first place. Which in the 'racism' social fiction they've created is to clamp down on critical analysis and thought and freedom of speech and expression and undermine traditional values.

What a comment!! Much of what you said put into to words what I would say, had I been more detailed and eloquent! This could be it's own separate article even haha! :)

Thanks :-) hmm, I must do that! Be safe and prepared.
