Acts of loving yourself

Ok so this was the final day of this 3 day course and today the main topic was acts of loving yourself.

We wrote down the reverse of the acts of not loving ourselves that we were doing in our lives. We also looked at how worthiness is tied in with loving ourselves.

It was interesting to see just how much we were able to love others much easier than loving ourselves. It seems to be quite a common trait in people and it may have something to do with the high expectations we put on ourselves. For definite though a big part of it is obviously a lack of self worth. Also having resistance to receiving love is quite common because people have been hurt in the past or/and you just don't love yourself enough.

We did an exercise where we connected with a sad feeling and then visualised a dial which when we turned down would turn up the feeling of love. We practised this for a while and the aim of the exercise was to just show us that we can actually control our emotions.

We also did something in the group called an affirmation bath which I had never heard before. Basically one person lied down and the others put one hand on their bodies and for five minutes repeated loving phrases like you are worthy, you are loved, you deserve to be happy etc. It was quite an experience and felt pretty good to have other people telling you this while you were relaxing with your eyes closed. Below is an example of what happens.


At the end of the day we finished it off with a mediation which was based around loving ourselves and are worthiness.

It was a good course and helped reinforce old ideas and establish new ideas that I will be practising and integrating into my life. The main thing I got out of it was that we can choose what emotions we want and that we should focus our energy on what we want and not what we don't want.

This is very useful because by loving yourself, you recognize yourself, you know what you like and dislike. You know exactly what makes you happy and how to be happy. You can then form the standard set of treatments you expect from your partner. And when you are not 100% satisfied, you can always be happy yourself without needing to demand more to make your partner tired.

I have mixed feelings after reading that post...having bath like that seems like valuable experience, but if our world would be normal, we wouldn't need to hear positive things from strangers - our families and friends would give us all reasuring we need. People of today have strange problem with saying things like ''I love you, you are important'' to their close ones...but asking strangers for affirmation looks a little...desperate (no offense). And one more things - all affirmations in the world means nothing if you are unable to believe in them.

Thanks for your comment, I think we are all in different places in our lives and any little thing that can help people remember they are worthy enough is helping everyone.

Another great post my friend and I am so glad that you have got so much out of this course. I would suggest though that all of us work at recognising that we ARE Love and that our goal is to BE Love. Loving yourself requires you to love others and vice versa. Have a great day :)

Yeh if you can get over feeling a bit stupid to start with then you can do it with your friends, family or anyone!

this is good. it is quite easier to show love to someone else. which is not supposed to be so.
