Vertigo warming - Looking up and down

This post is for the looking up challenge that has been started by @melinda010100 and @pixelfan but with a twist as I will be looking up and looking down,

For those who suffer from vertigo you may not want to scroll down as it included a shot looking straight up

This first shot is on 42nd Street just down from Grand Central terminal

@boddhisattva has recently shared some very cool shots with puddle reflections recently and when I saw this big puddle on the street the other day I decided to try and get one, I did mess up the focus with it being on the road and not on the reflected buildings, but I still like the shot and went with a bit of an artsy creative edit with it

And incase your wonderign what it looked like without the artsy edit, here it is

Finally searched the tag this morning and was so glad that I did because I would have been very unhappy if I would have missed these excellent photos! I'm resteeming!

·

Thanks so Much, I use Gina to keep up with my tags then I always know when they come up :)

·
·

I have never been able to get Gina to work for me.

·
·
·

Sorry to hear that I would be lost without her especially on Wednesdays I cant even remember how I set her up to be honest, I think when it started there was a room on discord that gives a link to how to set it tup

·
·
·
·

I just went to Minnow-power on Discord to try again. Still can't register. This time I asked for help and will try to figure out what I am doing wrong.

·
·
·
·
·

OK i hope they can sort it out for you it is so handy to have all the notifications that come up on it

·
·
·
·
·

I've heard other people say that as well and I keep intending to get it sorted out and hopefully I can this time. Still no response on Discord.

Can I ask if you know how to find the numbers that we need for taxes? I'm sure there must be a way, but I'm in the dark as where to find them!

Hey, good try! )))
If you look closely, the fact that the puddle did not get into focus gives you the feeling that the reflection is painted with colors)))

If you don't mind, I will give you advice that another guy gave me, who is professional in shooting reflections. Try lowering the camera as low as possible above the water. So it will be more difficult to control the geometry of the frame, but it is easy to fix when processing photos. But the result should make you happy!

·

Thanks for the advise that is great and I will try that
Since the reflections were crisp I went fir an artsy edit on them

Thanks again

Thanks for the update 😎👍😎

Really do love the reflection. The puddle also seems to resemble a trident.

·

I had not seen that resemblance to a trident but now I see it thanks for that observation and visit

Impressive effect photos and a excellent photographer. I like it, thanks for sharing!

·

And thanks for your visit and support

That is some shot of the buildings on 42 street. I lived in NJ for over 60 years and enjoyed going to the city for many events concerts, games at Madison Square Garden, Yankee Stadium, etc. Now I live in the middle of the woods and can honestly say I don't miss the hustle and bustle of that area.

·

I was kind of the opposite grew up in a small village out of the nearest small city and then ended up traveling a lot through my work ending up in NYC but let’s be out in CT so I can get away from the hustle and bustle after work
But only a few more months then I will retire and seldom if ever head into the city

·
·

Retirement around the corner, good for you. Funny thing about retirement, many people have asked me what the heck I was going to do with all of that free time. My answer was always the same. I am going to do what ever the hell I please. I think the key to retirement is having a lot of hobbies, and maybe try some things that one has never done.

·
·
·

I have been thinking about this for a few years, thats why I have got more into photography which is a hobby I plan to spend more time on when I retire, also I am seriously thinking about setting up a little photo studio and a Salt water fish tank, and I am sure I will find lots of things to keep me busy when the time comes :)
I am not one for sitting twiddling my thumbs so I know I will keep myself occupied but instead of with work things it will be for fun

I love the "looking down" photos... Initially I thought it would be photos looking down from high up... But you made this very interesting... The reflection from the water puddle... Cool!

Thanks It’s not really fitting the looking up challenge the second shot but I do like to be different LOL

·
·
  ·  last month (edited)

Ahhhhh...now i know why you clicked it out of place i would of laid on my back for that shoot....haha :)

Have a good day my friend i am of to bed :)

·
·
·

I have got down on my back for shots like this in the past, but the streets were busy in this spot and getting down and up isnt as easy as it used to be LOL

·
·
·
·

Sure don't want to be laying on your back in busy streets and like you said it's something you shouldn't be doing anymore old timer...haha :)

·
·
·
·
·

LOL, well when I retire I may do it, I wont be in a rush to get back up LOL

·
·
·
·
·
·

I would not doubt that you don't give up easy by the sounds of it...lol :)

·
·
·
·
·
·
·

Sometimes I am just to stubborn and refuse to acknowledge my aches and pains and be more sensible, but I am getting there slowly LOL

·

Yes that was one of the shots I took when I clicked my neck but it’s all good now

I just love that puddle shot! It has an impressionistic feel. The mundane buildings become almost dreamlike, fused with nature.

·

Thanks for such a kind comment, :) I wasn’t happy that I did not get a clear reflection so went with a painterly feel for that part

·
·

It worked well :)

·
·
·

Thanks I wasn't so sure to be honest but I spent a bit of time on it and didnt want to just delete it

Of course I like the reflection the most JJ. Excellent post!
Blessings!

·

Thanks Mate next timeI see a big puddle like this I want to get better and crisper reflections in the puddle

What a exhilarating looking up shot !!

·

Thanks kindly I am lucky NYC has so many places worth looking up at

·
·

That's one place you will never run out of buildings to look up at !!

·
·
·

Ohh yes when I retire next year and move away I will miss that of course

·
·
·
·

There will always be something interesting around !!

·
·
·
·
·

True if one is observant there is always interesting things to see

·
·
·
·
·
·

Yes exactly observant is the key word !!

·
·
·
·
·
·
·

So many are n such a rush to get from A to B they never look around and miss so much

Wow! You always have excellent images.... These photos are perfect and I love the blue reflection on the water surface... Happy weekend @tattoodjay. I hope I can still send my contribution to your challenge, Iam a bit late ´cause of my foot issue.

·

Thank you... I hope so too, if it doesn´t get well, tomorrow I might go to the an orthopedic to have it x-rayed. I already had heel spurs but the conservative therapy didn´t help me... and then I stumbled into a roll of carpet 4 daysa go, which I didn´t notice because I didn´t put on the light in the cellar....tsk. Have a lovely Sunday evening!

·
·
·

Yes dont leave it to long, trust me I did that with foot injuries when I was younger, and I am feeling it now with old age, Lets hope its something simple and feels better sooner, and dont forget to turn on the light in the cellar

·
·
·
·

Hahaha... lessons learned... Yeah, I need a foot therapy soon... Thanks once more! Ciao!

·
·
·
·
·

I have tennis balls under my work and hope desk, I sit barefoot and use it to massage my feet all the time, it keeps me going ;)

Oh Wow, Jay. You outdid yourself with these shots:)

·

Thanks Kindly I am looking for more puddles I want to get a clearer reflection in the puddle next time ;)

·
·

I loved the effect you achieved. Looks like an impressionistic painting.

·
·
·

I went for that effect since i wasnt very happy with the reflection, nice to know you like it ;)

I am going to have to look into this challenge a little more. I made sure to take some "looking up" shots when I was in Vegas so I could post them at the appropriate time :)

·

I went off track with y second photo, with the looking down, but i tend to bend the rules LOL, Vargas must have giving you plenty of looking up shots for sure
