Things I've Learned

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Remember you will die.

Maybe even today. Don’t forget that. Don’t forget to be thankful for your health. For the ability to walk. For the time you get to spend with the person you love. For your siblings. For whatever it is that you have today. It’s not yours, it can be stolen away at any moment. So while you have it on loan, cherish it.

(GRIM, BUT TRUE)

Exercise, almost every day.

Maybe this is just me. But if I’m not active, I can’t trust myself. I can’t trust my emotions, my reactions, my thinking. Regular exercise resets me.

You end up being the average of the people you spend your life with.

You become a reflection of your environment, particularly your social one. Choose your people wisely. Don’t hesitate to move or change if you know things aren’t right.

(SEND LOTS OF WHALES...j/k)

Most people never ask for what they want.

A lot of good happens if you ask for what you want. First of all, you’ll be forced to define what you want. Second, you’ll be forced to think about how you might get it. The third step, is the easiest and the least utilized. Just ask.

Always take the stairs.

There’ll be plenty of days where you can’t, so accept the opportunity to take the stairs as a gift and make a deposit into your Future Health account.

(Hi @steemit-health)

Put yourself in places that make you nervous.

Nerves are really the only way to know that you’re being stretched. If there hasn’t been a moment of nerves in your life for a month, it might be worthwhile asking if you’re pushing hard enough.

(I've written about this here: https://steemit.com/life/@wetthebeak/5-reasons-you-will-never-do-anything-great)

Talk it out.

When it comes to humans, there’s no other way. You have to talk things out. Sometimes it will take years. For the right people, that time is worthwhile. The unsaid will go unsolved.

(maybe we can talk out our technical analysis differences @stephenkendal)

Don’t be precious.

It’s OK to be passionate about great wine, or great coffee or great beer but don’t be the person who’s above a glass of cask wine, a cup of instant coffee or a XXXX Gold.

(I think this is a STEVE JOBS STAY HUMBLE moment)

Everything is mediocre.

Most jobs are mediocre. Most people’s work is mediocre. Most products and experiences are mediocre. Most lives drift to mediocre. When you rise above the mediocrity, people will notice.

(I'm trying to do that here on SteemIT everyday...how am I doing? LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS!)

Lovely post

thank you, james!

This post resonates with me. I particularly can relate to asking for what you want. You've got to manifest the energy to get what you want. More then likely that will mean getting up off your behind and asking for it! People who can confidently ask for what they want or go in the right direction despite obstacles are generally more respected.

Also exercise is probably the most under utilized antidepressant! I have to exercise to or i just don't feel right

100!!!! i don't know why i've gone all motivational posts lately but it seems to be helping myself reflect. the powers of steemit!

STEEMIT is Actually good for my mental health. Its pretty awesome

Awesome post. Agree with all the point.
For me personally the hardest challenge is the ASK part...

It seems like most of us need to work on the ask part. Myself included. It's weird how hard it is for us to ask for what we want or even for a little help.

The older I get the more I regret not asking for help earlier.

I am not sure I will ever learn that part...

You already have. Just look at the people you had to ask to interview!

James, Pat, etc...

plan out a strategy for the next step and follow up with an email to have them back on and get their take on it. Taking steps forward like that and putting ourselves in uncomfortable situations is the only thing that will help to improve ourselves.

It will payoff ten fold.

yes... I was lucky to have all those amazing people ) The funny thing is - when I approached them and we had our interviews, no one knew who the hell I was

hahaha well now they do and your audience has grown/is growing. never lose those connections. reach out again!!!!

Oh I am in touch with almost all of them! )

i can't remember if you ever got gary vaynerchuck on the pod but i would imagine he would be more willing now then in a month because he would want to promote his "Planet of the Apps" show.

That would be an INCREDIBLE get...he's your unicorn. just ASK! you can do it!
