In this series of the Mystical World, we set sails on looking at some more forsaken and forgotten places. Or in other words, we will have a look at 5 of the scariest places in the world.

1 The Abandoned Coal-Washing plant

The first place on the list is located in France and is a former coal processing and washing plant. Little is known about the place itself and it doesn't even have a Wikipedia page.

The only info regarding this is its location.

It is revered that the plant itself had a fire accident back in the days and now the only thing left standing are the metal frames that used to hold the building together.

People say that the plant is so dirty and stale that one would have to dispose of his clothes after visiting. Not only because everything is dirty, but due to the smell that soaks up in everything.

2 The Mir Diamond Mine

Located in Russia, Siberia this great hole in the ground is an abandoned exponent of Humanity's attempt to gather diamonds located far beneath the reaches of a shovel.

Typically diamonds are way beyond the reach of our modern day technology, located deep within the earth's crust and the Mir diamond mine is an example of what needs to be done to get one step closer to them.

The mine itself goes as much as 17 000 meters down and is just forsaken and abandoned near a small city in Russia.

The development of the mine started in 1957, in extremely harsh climate conditions. Seven months of winter per year froze the ground, making it hard to mine.

3 The Maunsell Forts

The Maunsell Forts are armed towers built in the Thames and Mersey estuaries during the Second World War. Their main use was to spy and recover intelligence.

The forts were decommissioned in the late 1950s and later used for other activities like pirate radio broadcasting.

Those who worked on the forts back then were the first line of defense and would probably end up not surviving if anything would have happened back then.

Now the forts stay abandoned and serve as a relic of the past, showing us a glimpse of the structures built during the second world war. Also, they are located in the UK and are owned by England.

4 The Lion's underwater City

Deep below the calm surface of Qiandao Lake in the Zhejiang Province of China, we can find the mysterious ruins of two ancient cities, dating back to the Han and Tang dynasties.

It is believed the city of Shi Cheng was built during the Tang Dynasty in 621 AD, making it nearly 1,400 years old.

The city stays intact to this day and extremely preserved, although not many people have the great opportunity to go sightseeing down the depts of the lake.

This is probably the closest that we can get to seeing Atlantis, although there are many underwater cities and villages located in China.

Divers constantly find new things amongst the discarded relics of the past, haunting to any person who views them today.

5 The Orpheum Auditorium

The Orpheum Theater is an old theatre and movie house located at 1005 Water Street in New Bedford, Massachusetts USA, originally named the Majestic Opera House.

The building was constructed or regarded finished exactly the same day the Titanic sank.

For some reasons unknown the building itself was closed in 1958-59, and was only opened for special events. Afterwards being bought by a tobacco company for storage.

Today it stands as a haunting relics which honestly is quite beautiful to see, yet somewhat creepy.

i liked the diamondmine the best. Nice research.

Pchshh! Those are kids playgrounds compared to the depths of the abandoned buildings in Pernik :D I am not joking (or am I?). Check out this post of a friend of mine, who was able to capture some of them. I don't know why I joke about my city so much...maybe it is my escape from reality. Anyway...great post as usual. Thank you for gathering those places for us. The Lion's underwater city looks amazing (to say the least). I checked out some pictures and a video online and the architecture is just jaw dropping.

The Mir diamond mine intrigues me the most mainly because of aahh the glittery gems haha.
