Cyber Dueling in Lieu of Post Flagging?

in #life6 years ago (edited)

@sneak didn't want you to see this post after I left this comment.

I have an idea on how to change the flag system to something a bit more respectable, instead of assigning vote weight to flags. One could just turn the flagging mechanism into a dueling mechanism. You know, like those old fashion duels where two people walk ten paces with single-shot flintlock pistols, then they turn and fire.

It would work the same way as it does now, with respect to the soft censorship aspect. The post would dither, and then you’d have to click reveal if you wanted to see it, and or the comment would collapse. But, and this is a big but; If you dual a post and shoot it down into dithered territory.

Then the person whose post you shot down, they have every right to do the exact same thing to one of your posts. Some ground rules for this proposed dueling mechanism would be:

  • You can only flag, or shoot down one post a day.
  • Others can forfeit their bullet to resurrect someone else's post.
  • Vote weight for dueling should be eliminated entirely.
  • Whoever initiates the duel wins, at first anyhow...
  • You cannot resurrect your own post.

That kind of system would keep everything gentlemanly. The whole idea being; an armed Steemit community is a polite Steemit community. This type of fair play when it comes to the use of force can easily be accomplished in the realm of 1's and 0's, yet is almost impossible to implement in real life.

Hell, they can't even enforce a weapons ban in the prisons, let alone outside of them. I think that flagging should be removed entirely, but if it had to stay, this system would be far more respectable.

The dueling mechanism, if implemented, could even trigger a cool little animation of the post getting shot down, and of course an animation for post resurrection too.

I agree. It's a solid idea that should be explored

I'm too late to try to counter the flag =/

However, it would only work against folks that post. You'd never have an opportunity to strike back against @sneak, @bloom, or @blacklist-a, who don't post.
