Hello Steemians,

I have been seeing all kinds of articles lately from Huff Post to MSN pertaining to a niche generation that was born between 1977-1983. I have found these articles very interesting and I just thought I would put together a little overview of the subject.

As a child growing up in a rural Midwest community, I always felt a little displaced. I had always just assumed this was in relation to where I was raised as opposed to when I was raised but then I started seeing this Xennial talk. It was fairly obvious to me when I read my first article pertaining to Xennials that someone had put their time into analyzing this. There really is a generational gap between Gen X and Millennials. While I am actually closer to Gen X and tend to lean more towards the generalizations there, I have also found it quite easy to relate to Millennials. My wife is Gen X but my step children are all Millennials... and then there I am.

So what defines a Xennial? It is tricky to really say one thing defines them. By being born into this time frame left their early childhood with little to no exposure to the pc world. Depending on the socio-economic region they were raised in they may or may not have had gaming systems as a child. That was quick to change though as they started to come of age. Xennials quickly adopted the tech era and a good deal of us were responsible for the tech advancements that eventually led to the dot com bubble.

This generation bridges the analog to digital transition in history and right in the middle sets a group of forward thinking conservatives. I don't mean in political nature but a great deal of Xennials were raised by 1st generation divorced families. This also plays a big part into their displacement generationelly.

As a micro generation Xennials have the been able to adopt most of the benefits of the generations surrounding them while sorting out some of the not so desirable traits. For many Xennials, they feel as though they don't really fit anywhere but would like to know how the circumstance of history has helped shape their perspective. This has led to the defining of this Xennial Generation.

If you are a Xennial and would like to put your 2 cents into this subject, please comment and let the discussions begin.

I knew I wasn't crazy! Never felt quite like a Millenial but like you, I connected more with Generation X. However, I didn't have the stereotypical traits of a Gen Xer. Didn't get my first game system until I was around 10. It was an old Atari. We got our first computer when I was 13. I remember the Gulf War. The dot com boom. Shoot, even POGS were awesome at one point in my life!

What a great share!

I feel like a piece of the puzzle that is my life has been found!

Thanks for the reply @lexikon082. I don't quite make the cut being born in 76 but it is the closest thing to fitting as I am always in the middle. I think this is why I have always based my life on a balance system. I believe that if a person can find the neutral ground of any argument then they will be able to find justification for how things are. Congrats on 76 days my brother and thanks for stopping by!

Yes, I do agree on this. Viewing the argument from both sides makes the digestion of the argument tougher. Additionally, to understand both sides of the coin makes one more well rounded. Thanks for the congrats.

YEA its so true somethimes i reely feel i just do not fit ... :(
I grow up in komunistok country and now i grow in democracy ... all is just so mesed up in our generation .

You are very welcome :)

I used to get into debates with my ex about this. We were both born in 78 and I would say that we were GenX and she would say we were Millenials. I would say that there's definitely a bit of a difference between us and GenX but that the differences there were smaller than the ones with Millenials. I used to say that we were GenY but people would say that's synonymous with Millenials. I guess Xennials makes more sense.

Thanks for the great response. I have had a lot of discussion over this particular subject in the outside world. It is guaranteed to create discussion at any event.

Well I just found out what generation I am a part of, didn't know there's a name for us.

I am not much on labeling but it does give a much better general overview of our age group as compared to the Gen X and Millennial description. You have a new follower @thelastsage

Peace
