Dear reader - Steem has been renamed to Hive since May 2020. My content therefore has moved with me to Hive, and I hope to see you there: peakd.com/@soyrosa.

Wow. That's just an amazing story. Sounds like you did a really good job with the situation. In my experience, when those guys put on the bullet proof vests there is a fear and adrenaline rise which can be serious.

So. You have a Valentine story for the rest of your life.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Haha, I like the ending - "here's my number because nobody is going to believe you".

Crazy story...

:') Yes, I laughed about that too - he would've left his number anyway I think, but the way he did made me smile :D

LOL! Sorry to hear you got SWATed. You're lucky your police are so nice though. Some people that have had this done to them in the US have wound up dead.

Yeah, from what I've seen from the US Police I'm not a fan - full prisons and violent police. Here it's the opposite - we're using our empty prisons for emergency housing now, lol. I feel lucky for sure :-)

That's good. I think prisons should be more like housing anyway. Many people in prison shouldn't necessarily be in a cell, but just in a place where they can get help and rehabilitation. But prison in America isn't like that. It's just about punishing people for going against the rules of the country.

I'm 100% with you. My background is in the behavioural sciences and what you're saying here counts for prisons, but also mental health institutions (makes sense, sometimes they overlap anyway). So often we think isolating and 'pushing back' behaviour is the way to go and if someone goes 'calm' we think we've had success. Then the person goes back to the world and has a fall back. Why?! Because we didn't get to know them as a person and their individual challenges and responses to those challenges. I makes me sick thinking about how we treat people as societies sometimes - there's still a lot to learn and improve on this topic :-)

A really weird story, but the police had to check it out. Just shows how kids playing around waste their time.

Exactly, I'm glad the police didn't just shake if of as a joke. These kids... I suspect they very much like confusing the police. There's some troubled youth living in this neighbourhood, and their relationship with the police is probably a lot different than mine.

I would say it is a lot different lol. I hope they can track them down and teach them a lesson.

Hehehe - yes, that's what André is doing all day :') One of these 'local policemen' got famous because he knows all the kids names and then when he sees them in another neighbourhood he calls them by their name: "Hey, how are you, what are you doing here today?" - apparently these kids get very timid suddenly when they see 'their' policeman :')

It is sad really that they see a policeman as something else than there to help them. The attitude to the police has certainly changed since I grew up. If you are up to no good then I suppose the police would be the enemy.

Oh, absolutely. These kids are 'troubled' but not always doing really bad stuff though. Police always try to find the right tone: warnings with a wink, so to say. I've heard about adults who met 'their' policemen and then told hem how much impact the policeman had on their lives. Must make it worth the effort if you get that kind of response <3

It sounds like the police handled the matter in a cool and professional manner.

They sure did and in that sense this was a good experience - I'm glad they don't just assume things are fine.

OMG, what a thing to happen! 😮 I would definitely have freaked-out!

I would thank the guys. It's just one of those situations that gives great blogging material :P

Hahaha - INDEED! I should've taken a selfie :')

hahahahha I am telling you Rotterdam is Ghetto :DDD
kudos for those guys just going on a hunch even though it was weird for you.. the other way around would have been worse

(ps glad you are not held at gunpoint!!!)

Hehe - yes, big kuddos! I thanked them of course - and I'm really glad that gun was never pointed at me - I wouldn't have been able to write a blog in that case. Such trauma.

I was expecting a weird & kinky Valentine's surprise.... this is rather disappointing :) Glad you are okay, though!

Sorry to disappoint you with my less than kinky story :')

It's not your fault... the policemen should have done a striptease :P

Well, while he started sharing the story he took off his bullet-proof vest... :P

A for effort? ;)
But on the serious note. They (the police) had to check, because it would look really bad in the media if something were up and they could have known... It also is a small effort for the 'local' policeman who is in the area already anyway.

Yeah, they really had to, and I'm happy they did. Small effort though... I don't know. They collected 8 policemen who had to dust off bullet-proof vests and I'm not even sure if I missed another van.
