Whenever I see a movie or read a book about extraterrestrial beings, it fills me up with great wonder and deep thoughts as to the consequences of such a huge encounter.

I mean really think about it for a second. You are living life normally and one fine day they just appear and the entire world goes into a frenzy. Everything halts for a second as the world watches with mixed feelings as to how everything would play out.

Rest assured, a direct encounter with an extraterrestrial species that is much more advanced than us would change humanity forever, for better or for worse. It would answer so many of our questions and also raise much more new ones.

I personally think that an alien race far more advanced than us would be peaceful because if a species is so advanced to be able to travel huge distances like it’s nothing, they would probably have solved much of their problems and wouldn’t need us or our resources for which they would need to ‘takeover’.

A Profound Learning Experience

Let’s assume for the purposes of this article that any alien species to visit us in the future will be friendly and here to help us in ways we cannot even imagine.

There is no doubt that we would gather a plethora of information regarding where they came from, the nature of life there, how they manage to travel huge distances, different phenomena related to physics that we don’t understand yet, technologies that would simply be like magic for us, and much more.

There are millions of mysteries we still haven’t solved for hundreds of years and an encounter with a highly intelligent race could solve all of that in a very, very short amount of time.

Thanks to one single event like that, our world could advance hundreds of years into the future, all within a decade. It’s like getting our hands on cheat codes for the game of life.

Something Deeper?

The other day I was watching a movie called “Arrival” and it has an interesting take on the whole ‘extra-terrestrial beings’ situation. The whole movie was about how language is not just a medium of communication but something deeper that shapes the very way we think.

In the movie, it is shown that the language of the aliens is in itself a pretty unique one as anyone who masters it, gains the ability to break the linear perception of time of us humans and start to perceive the future and the past all at once.

Although I know this was only in a movie, but the concept really intrigued me. Could there be something that we are already doing, (like language in the movie) that could be changed, to open up entirely new dimensions for us? What if meeting alien beings could be more about just gaining know-how and technology.

What if it could utterly change how we view life itself, or something that would kickstart the next phase of our evolution into truly remarkable beings, that shed all the negative aspects of ourselves to realise our true potential? That would be a mission worth travelling thousands of light-years for the aliens, I think.
