How To Be A Well-Balanced MOFO | with James Marshall

in #life6 years ago

Fresh off the Infinite Man Summit, today we have a quick Q+A with Sasha and James Marshall.

Sasha: You gave an amazing talk at the summit this year. We could feel the love and joy. What do you like most when you go up on stage and give value? What part of these events make you the happiest?

James: I think it’s two things.

One is where you hit points where the guys have got a concept, or a bunch of threads in their mind, and then you give them one thing and it ties a bunch of those threads together. I like seeing people have epiphanies where their separate bits they are working really hard on can actually be combined and it all becomes simpler.

The second thing is actually a bit of the opposite. I think I like to be a voice of not cynicism, but you know a little bit of reality, and the grit of these paths that people choose. If you’re choosing a path that is totally separate from the status quo and possibly uncharted territory, that it’s fucking hard and that it’s not guaranteed. You have to be realistic, and you have to be strategic, and you might have to let go of some delusional ideas.

Sasha: Most guys take the inspiration from the summit or from live training and actually turn their lives around. But, there are some who say “Yeah, that was fun…” and don’t take any action afterwards. What do you think separates those two types of people?

James: I believe it’s “Hope vs. Striving” The guys that rely on hoping that something they see will unlock things for them, but they don’t fully commit. They just do the background work and hope it cracks the code. They listen and research, but that can go on forever. Sure, sometimes change can be fast and effortless, but in general, people don’t change over their lives unless they really want to.

So change, especially as you get older, that requires diligence and daily practice in all sorts of ways. Along with a clear vision of the alternative if you continue to do nothing.

You’re not going to win the lottery of live by just sitting around.

Sasha:
Daily routines and healthy habits are what will change your life. It could be yoga, meditation, doing stretches in the park or even reading a really good book for ten minutes a day. There’s no need to go crazy and try to change everything all at one. Just start a simple new pattern and build off of it.

A lot of people go to the events and they just get this idea that they have to change everything. They need a successful business NOW, and the perfect woman NOW, and the perfect body NOW.

NO. Just work on one area until you feel pretty good about it (and don’t be a perfectionist) then move on to the next one until eventually you are a well balanced MOFO.

Big thank you to James for the extra time to chat and to all the other speakers who attended.

We are back to our regularly scheduled program and email routines so let us know what you want us to talk about next and stay tuned for our Friday recap of the Summit

Ciao!

It is really hard to keep the balance. Everyday life gets to us all, so focusing on your priorities and challenges that are in front of you, results in the imbalance. Then there is a hierarchy of needs - one can not focus on self-actualization if the basic needs aren't met. That's coping vs thriving mode (or hoping vs striving). The first one is you are just struggling to get by, and the other is living your path. So balance cannot be found on that pendulum. My problem is simple - I am always all in! So if I am working on business success I am immersed in that and it's all I want to improve, so I neglect many other aspects of my life like social life for example. That was always my problem and I would like to hear your opinion on how to find a balance when you are like me?
