SELF EXAMINATION, A KEY TO CONTINUOUS SUCCESS

The popular saying, " an unexamined life is not worth living" is mostly attributed to ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates. Personally, I couldn't agree with him more. Assuming you finally got to buy that car you have been saving for the past 5 years for. This is a car that you have always dreamt of, and it took you years of sacrifice and determination to finally acquire. Tell me, will you drive this car for the next 1 year without servicing it? Of course not. Every now and then, I am sure you will pass by the mechanic to assess the condition of your vehicle. You would want to know if there is sufficient engine oil or if the brakes are in good shape. This is because you love this vehicle and you have work hard to acquire it.

This should not be different from what happens in our every day lives. If we are to make useful lives, we can not live for the sake of living. Once in a while, it becomes necessary for us to take a short break, relax and reflect deeply over our lives. We need to always remember where we started, as well as how far we have come. It is only then that we can be sure of where we are headed. For how do you find a befitting destination if you can't remember your roots? 

• There are those who only examine their lives when things begin to go wrong.
• There are those who may examine themselves when things are going so well.
• Some may never make the time to assess themselves at all.

But the best among us are the ones who examine their lives routinely, irrespective of how things are going. If things are going well, you should be interested in finding out what it is you are doing right and how you can improve upon it. This is the only way to ensure a continuous flow of success towards you. On the other hand, if things begin to go wrong, then you must be missing something. This is the more reason why you need to examine yourself. If you can figure out and fix the missing pieces, then you are one step closer to achieving some success. Sometimes too, things can go wrong for a while before they begin to create noticeable effects. If you are in the habit of routine self-assessment, then you could figure it out before it begins to create serious problems.

In as much as self-assessment is very important, assessing the lives of others can also be very useful in our success, especially, if they are people we look up to. For example, there are people who are making significant differences on the steemit community. As a newbie, if you want to follow in their steps, then you will need to identify what it is that they are doing differently and try to do same.
