48 tonnellate di argento su una nave affondata al largo della costa dell'Irlanda - trovato.
A poche centinaia di miglia dalla città irlandese di Galway, circa 48 tonnellate di argento sono state sollevate in superficie da una nave da trasporto militare affondata nel 1941.
La nave Gairsoppa fu silurata da un sottomarino tedesco nell'anno dell'inizio della guerra e da allora è stata ad una profondità di oltre 4,7 mila metri. L'equipaggio della nave era composto da 85 persone, ma solo il secondo ufficiale riuscì a fuggire.
Il sollevamento della nave sulla base di un contratto con il ministero dei trasporti britannico ha gestito la compagnia americana Odyssey Marine Exploration. Tutto l'argento trovato è stato trasportato in un deposito a Londra.
Questa quantità di argento è solo il 20% del totale, poiché sotto il contratto il restante 80% viene trasferito alla proprietà della società che effettua il sollevamento della nave.
Il tesoro era uno dei più grandi reperti d'argento. Il suo costo è stimato in 38 milioni di dollari ....
