When misery turns into kindness

How does a person succeeds to place others' need above his own and go beyond his threshold of comfort or pain, just to offer some comfort to another soul?
Seeing people who are dealing with a chronic illness or a disability volunteering for a cause or another, completely forgetting about their own limitations and going out of their ways just to bring a smile upon one's face is truly inspiring!
When do we stop to think in terms of payback and practice kindness in a daily basis? I am always amazed by those souls who find the strength to ignore the burden of their invisible crosses and focus on others. The human mind is a miraculous little thing capable of unheard stories and unbelievable facts!
Swimming in a pool of darkness, of destructive selfishness is not the way to live. It won't take away the pain, it won't change the situation you are in, it won't bring you any satisfaction nor show you the path towards the light.
When you cease to complain and understand that the joy you have been looking for has a totally different source than it used to have, then only you'd have a chance to happiness.
Sometimes it might not have the same taste, or it will not feel the same. The pleasure of seeing happiness in others, being the one behind it or becoming its source can bring back that warm feeling of joy into your broken beaten heart.
When serving others becomes the focus of your life, miracles happen. Compassion, altruism and love are the tools that can help us make the world a better place.
I loved this piece @lymepoet. In a frenetic world is hard to stop and think, and it's even harder for older people to find their right place to be in.
So true! Most of the times they feel forgotten and abandoned.
