Cheating on winter

Cheating on winter feels good! It does wonders to the body and mind, especially when you leave behind piles of snow and Arctic temperatures while heading to a sunny destination.

It is a well known fact that the lack of sun leads to depression or at least high deficiency of vitamin D. No wonder so many people living in the northern areas complain about getting headaches, migraines or experiencing lower levels of energy!

Staying motivated and focused while spending a lot of time indoors can wear you out. If you throw in the freezing cold factor, you have a sure recipe for disaster.

Some people love being outdoors in spite of the cold. They say more active you are, less you feel the cold. Unfortunately it doesn't apply to me. Not because I haven't tried practicing winter sports or I disliked them.

Due to my Lyme I am no longer able to skate or be out there in the cold for more than ten minutes without risking to trigger a new painful bone pain episode or having my muscles twitch and ache for days.

Throughout the years I learnt to tame my will and avoid triggers. No more impulsive decisions that would have me bedridden or feeling miserable.

Canadian winters can be harsh and long, making my hibernation longer than usual. This lengthy process can take a toll on you. Turning into a snowbird, even for a short period of time is always beneficial.

After two weeks of being in the sun, working on my tan, I don't care if it snows or not this month. I can see the bright side: only two months left of winter!

Hahahaha, that cheating sounds amazing and I am sure you have a great tan now. Halfway done already, only 2 months to go. It will be over before we realize :)

It certainly helps the moral when I look outside and see the thermometer is 20 degrees and more below zero degrees Celsius!

Minus 3 days today ;)
Snow always looks so inviting in the movies.... but of course I know of the flip side of winter too
A warm hug to you <3

Thanks! Minus 34 degrees Celsius coming up my way. I need it ;0)

Ah, triggers. I know about them. Each of us has a personal set, and then there are the predictable ones--stress on top of the list.
Glad you can get a break from the cold and sunless winter. Being good to ourselves is sometimes the best medicine we can take.
Here's to an early spring :)

Thanks for stopping by! The Artic temperatures outside make spring seem like a far away dream. Luckily the calendar says otherwise. ;0)

I have a rather serious sun allergy. It doesn't matter what the calendar says. I can tell when spring is on the way because sun coming in my car window begins to get irritating. Then I know the earth is turning its face toward the sun and spring is around the corner. I wonder if the groundhog has the same feeling? Mine always comes sometime in February. Hasn't happened yet this year :)
