Chick Fil A, and Starting New Businesses

in #life6 years ago

A free Chick Fil A lunch is typically incentive enough to gather a group of people, but today people came to The Foundry to ideate their new businesses.

For the past decade or so, our local seminary has hosted a summit to promote and fund the business ideas of their students. This afternoon, we hosted the lunch and learn portion of the Thursday sessions.

We had well over 60 people come through our coworking space as we welcomed local business owners to share their wisdom.

It was a full circle moment for us because last year we were one of the teams pitching and seeking mentorship for our coworking space idea. This year, we are able to be the mentors for those seeking to start something new in their work life.

You know how we sometimes invite people over to our homes so that we make time to clean the house? Well, the picture above is one example of what the past week or two has looked like.

The ongoing discussion to remodel the kitchen area finally turned into action. Of course, we finished two days before the festivities. That was plenty of time right?

Sort:

networking and mentorship are never bad ideas - throw in the free chicken lunch and you may have a loyal clientele, lol

Lol, we certainly think so. :)

This is so fantastic!

All too sadly, most churches I've ever been a part of have seemed to rather rigorously practice "separation of church and business," a totally unbiblical notion.

I have tried for years to persuade our church leadership to let me organize an "Enterprise Faire," to which everyone in the congregation who makes a living in one way or another would be invited to set up an exhibit table.

I guess I need to pitch it again, but I get discouraged after pitching it several times, writing and submitting a proposal, and then reminding the leadership of that proposal with no result...

😄😇😄

One thing that was incredibly encouraging this past weekend, was the number of pastors there excited about business. They readily admitted that the marketplace was not their first choice, but the more they interacted with local business owners the more they found in common. Discipleship and apprenticeship were common themes along with a renewed desire to do ministry in the marketplace as Paul and the early church did.

That is really great. Makes me glad to hear about it. :D

Two days extra means you started a day too soon LOL
