CHINA vs CANADA - PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION!

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Hello Steem Blockchain!

Today, China and Canada will go head to head to find out who has better public transportation?

Actually, I will explain why China's public transport is better than Toronto's in every single aspect.

Price

To take Toronto's public transportation (the TTC), it costs $3.25CAD

My hometown, Mississauga, only has buses; no subways. The bus costs freakin $3.75CAD.

The only good thing about Toronto's and Mississauga's transportation is that you can get a transfer when you get on the subway/bus which is valid for 2 hours. That means that you can take any other bus within that 2 hour window without having to pay the fare again. But regardless, it is still more expensive than going from one side of Beijing to the other.

Beijing's Subway: Like $0.40 for the first 3 or 4 stops. After that it increases by distance. Your whole trip will probably cost under $1.00. Incredible.

The buses in Qinhuangdao cost 2 RMB (~$0.40) and it takes me downtown. Meanwhile I need to pay $3.75 to go downtown in Mississauga lol.

To go from Mississauga to Toronto (neighbouring cities), it cost me $8.15 to go from Erindale Station to Union Station.

However, I can go from my city in Qinhuangdao to Beijing for 88 RMB which is $16.76 by high-speed rail and it takes over 2 hours to get there. Obviously, the high speed rail in China is cheaper by distance.

Convenience

China wins again.

Subways arrive on time and frequently during regular operational hours. The TTC subways are OK but they often have delays and the subway stations aren't the prettiest.

In Mississauga, I've got to wait at least 15 minutes for a bus but buses arrive more frequently in China. Obviously China has a larger population and there are a greater number of people that need to take public transport. Canada's public transport doesn't need to be the best because there isn't enough demand for it relatively speaking.

Also, the bus system is kinda weird in Mississauga. The bus stop only has a stop number where you have to call a hotline to find out when the bus will arrive and it will also tell you where it is going. It's really annoying because you have to listen to a long automated message and press keys on the dialpad to hear this information. In China, there are signs at each station that tell you all the stops the bus will stop at and what time they start and end. So much better!

I will say one thing though: There are more seats on the buses and subways in Canada. In China there are only 10 seats at the back for everyone to sit on and 10 seats in the front that are reserved for elderly/handicapped people. Since the buses are usually full, getting a seat can be difficult on both the subway and bus.

Well that pretty much wraps this post up. We need to give credit where credit is due. China's public transport is far ahead anywhere in Canada. Be let me make something clear: China's public transport needs to be good if they want a sustainable country. A country of 1.4 billion with a middle class demands an efficient system so that people can travel over the country. In Canada, there are only upwards of 30 million people which means that the demand for an efficient public transportation system is far less than China's. Public transport in China is highly profitable because of how many people need to use this service and that can help keep prices affordable. Public transport in Canada is far more expensive and I'm sure one of the reasons for it is because there aren't enough people that take it.

I feel Australia is very similar to Canada in this regard. Since I have been back home I have been so frustrated with the transportation options compared to China.
