How to Get Rich In China! | One of the Best Ways

I have been a teacher in China for over 3 years and I have definitely learned some things along the way.
Living in China has allowed me to better understand the Chinese Mindset.
For many years, products and services in China were poorly made because the market didn't have a choice. Only the upper class could afford to buy imported products. In other words, higher quality did not mean higher profits.
That is why many Chinese people have this mindset that if something is more expensive, then it is better. Schools use this to their advantage.
Many schools in China are successful because they are expensive. If they are famous, then they will most likely be the go-to school that people recommend.
Parents will spend a fortune on their child's education. At the same time, most Chinese parents can't speak English and therefore don't know the difference between one English training school and another. The only thing they can use to gauge the different is how famous it is and/or how expensive it is.
So there you have it. If you want to become rich in China, open an English training school and charge a lot of money for enrollment. Parents will assume that because your school is expensive, it is better than other schools. Do not advertise how affordable your school is or how it is cheaper than another school. Instead, you will want to state that your school is more expensive because it is more intensive and students will learn faster here.
That's how it works in China.
I'm not telling you to be a scam artist. I am just telling you the reality. If you can teach English, you can make a good living because people will pay a premium for it. It's the same with luxury goods. Brands like Prada, Gucci and Louis Vuitton are killing it in China because Chinese people have a thing for name brands and looking like they are of a high status.

Great post with a simple insight. I am thinking of language teaching in China, though using VR. Early days, but let see and let's make it expensive!

Really? That's very interesting to know. I'm in India now and there much less interest in it that I was thinking. I had hoped to get to China on this trip but time won't allow. Would you recommed Shanghai as the place to be?
Shanghai is really cool. Been there. You are around all the action. If you want to be around technology, then Shenzhen might be a better option. Shenzhen is the Silicon Valley of Asia.
Ok thanks! I've never been to that part of China or really given it much thought (Spent a few months in Sichuan & Yunnan back in '05). I think this VR language learning idea has potential, we have a demo, but I need to find a potential Market before I can find investors. Maybe it's Shenzhen.

I'm in a city called Qinhuangdao, Hebei province. It is a coastal city about 2.5 hours away from Beijing by high speed rail.
I have a lot of friends in China who went there to be English Language tutors they seem to be doing well for themselves.
Yes, you can live a very comfortable life teaching English in China. A lot of times, accommodation is provided for free and the job is low stress.
I have a question? when you teach english in china does this mean that you have to know how to speak chinese first before you can teach them english?
Good question. No you do not. You are not expected to know how to speak Chinese (but it is really useful if you can). Often times, it's a lot easier to translate a word from English to Chinese for a student to understand the meaning of the word than it is to explain it all in English.

Wow, a shocking but real talk. China is quite a popular place, and i guess the vast growth of Chinese economy makes it look that way. Though its not just about China the believe of higher quality expectation from expensive stuff is everywhere in the world. When your product is more costly we tend to see it as having more value.

Yes. It is a worldwide phenomenon but in China it seems even more so. They are used to having low quality stuff there so the only way to increase your chances of getting something that isn't fake is paying more money.
