Hack Your Self Confidence, (Steemit Original)

in #life8 years ago

Most people live behind a veil that restricts their true potential. They never live up to their true potential because they have a false belief that they cannot achieve greatness. In fact, the greatest and most enduring reasons why many people live normal lives is because they believe they are not meant for extraordinary lives.

The Science Behind Self-Confidence

It is not the lack of intelligence, opportunities, or resources that make people live mediocre lives. Rather, it is the lack of belief in themselves. To put it in another way, people have very little confidence in themselves. Just think about it. Bill Gates rose to be a prominent force in today’s computing world not because he came from a wealthy family, or he had a unique opportunity not open to other people. Rather, he had a belief that he could achieve whatever he set out to do.
The belief in one’s abilities is what separates the great from the not so great.

What Is Self-Confidence Anyway?

Luckily self-confidence is a skill, not a talent you have to be born with. It is something you can learn, and with practice, you will have the all the self-confidence you need to take on the world and be all that you can.
Like any other skill, self-confidence needs a lot of practice. The more you practice it, the better you get at it. For instance, if you want to get better at speaking in front of large crowds, you need to adopt a belief that you can make a speech in front of hundreds or thousands of people.
You need to start believing in your ability to speak in public. When you start believing in yourself, something happens in your brain. Your mind starts pulling all the resources you need to master public speaking.
It’s that easy. What you convince your conscious and subconscious you can do, the two will draw in all the resources you will ever need to achieve your goal. So if you want to develop a deeper and stronger self-confidence, you have to adopt an attitude of a confident person.
Seek out the behaviors of individuals with self-confidence. In fact, find a mentor and try to emulate them. Copy them correctly, and you will find your self-esteem growing day by day. You don’t need to do anything else, just adopt the habits of confident people, and you will become confident.
The brain learns by emulating. It takes a set of facts and applies it to a situation. If you give your brain a set of points that you are confident, the brain will try and make that a reality. That’s the science of self-confidence. The more you practice, the better you get at it. It’s like riding a bike, practice long enough, and you’ll never forget how to ride a bike your entire life.

Quick tips to boost your self confidence

nice article n i keep wacthing this

More keep coming up hehe! I think I have a very big addiction to this site!

Nice post! It's refreshing to see the topic of empowerment here on Steemit. I have grown into a confident person through my 20s (I just turned 33), from being a shy teen. I always loved myself, but I was too afraid of criticism when I was younger. I always wanted positive feedback. Negative feedback would crush me. I was paralyzed from really putting myself out there. My biggest tip for self confidence is don't be afraid to be disliked or not well-received. I gain more self-confidence and self-reliance when I decided to act within my personal integrity and speak from the heart. That way, it matters less what the outcome is, and I can love myself for being myself. Thanks for the food for thought!

I love your comment! It's so true, People out there will hate you no matter what, And some people will like you no matter what, You just need to find those people.

Yes! We are worth having good friends :-)

After I saw and thought....

👍great post, also I like ur tips... Keep up ur work...

Ohh So creepy! I love this!!

I'm pretty flippin' confident! :D I'll give myself a 8.5; we can always improve!

I like your quick tips and follow them all myself.

Your turn Lin, what's your confidence level? :)

Thats awesome :) 8.5 Is good! I'd probably say I'm a 7 or an 8, So I'm up there. But not quite high enough lol.

Love your post! It reminded me of something I learned from Brian Tracy:

I've heard this quote before and I love it hehe ;)

Kaylin, great post. I enjoyed the art you have shared in the past, but it's good to see you adding a different type of value to the site as well.

There is a lot of truth to the idea that confidence is learned. When I was six years old, my mother signed me up for piano lessons; I was naturally shy, yet part of the course requirement was having to perform on stage. For years, I threw up before every performance, but to make it through, there was no way to go but forward. That experience allowed me to build the confidence I otherwise wouldn't have had.

I'm now able to present important project findings to audiences of senior leadership at work, post my original writing to be read by hundreds of thousands on Wattpad, and speak publicly or lead tours as needed, all without letting my (still natural) shyness win out.

It was a long road, and it started early, but I got here under my own power — thanks to being put outside of my comfort zone.

WOw that is amazing!! Being outside your comfort zone makes all the difference. I had to do ballet on Stage so I know how scary that can be!

Great post @kaylinart!

Self-confidence is a skill that can be learned, and your quick tips are a great way to get started on self-confidence.

Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you! It definetly is, I feel like many people feel like they can never learn it, Instead they are doomed. Which is not the case at all.

It's all about limiting beliefs @kaylinart. Henry Ford said it best, "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right."

Eek! I love this article :) It's so true

It really is true! Thanks again for sharing this. Keep the posts coming.

Set small goals and achieve them.

During the last 30 minutes of a work day, try to work on a small task that you can achieve before you go home.

Thats a really good idea! That will put you in a good mood on the way home :)

Personally I'm pretty indifferent to the concept of low or high confidence as I rather listen to content than style. That's about communication anyway. But if delivery is of utmost importance, I feel like exercising is the best way to go.. nothing beats a good workout sesh!

For these reasons I use dumb bots that act based on trivial measurements like time. I leave the complex decision making to myself and use bots for simple decisions. Mostly their value to me is speed and objectivity. What I mean is if I put the ultimate decision of execution in the hand of the bot, then I don't have to worry about my own last minute irrationality undercutting an otherwise optimized decision making strategy
