The killer called porn

in #life7 years ago (edited)

The first time I saw porn, I was 16. It was in 2008 when I finished secondary school. I got my first summer job as an assistant clerk from which I bought an MP4 player. I had just finished high school and had passed my exams when my dad gave me a NEC flip phone.

Sometimes, the truth is hard to share but no matter how hard it is, its always good to tell.

I had a computer but didn't know how to connect to the internet then. I learned about it later in April. I always took my MP4 player to a shop down the street to load it up with songs and videos.

Without demand, the guy; Tosin, as I can remember vividly, loaded my MP4 player with pictures of unclad ladies and clips of sexual activities.

The norm was to drop your device in the morning and pick it up in the evening. I had never seen such activity in my whole life. I quickly deleted them and asked Tosin to give me funny pictures and videos in place of what he gave me. I was shocked and curious at the same time.

My NEC flip phone was an internet enabled multimedia phone so I took to the internet. I googled really awkward stuff and discovered a realm of the internet that I couldn't share with anybody.

It was the moment of Nintendo DS, Play Station Portable, MP4 Players, iPods and a rush of internet enabled phones. Memory cards were new to us in Nigeria and the internet was fairly used by the populace.

I had a few friends who had all these gadgets. There was a group of boys whose mum put porn on their PSP intentionally. I wouldn't know why but she did. There was this video I couldn't forget easily. The lady in the video was a Nigerian as they spoke in Yoruba. My family didn't know I had seen porn during this time. A couple of television programmes got me more inquisitive.

In Africa, it was not the norm for a lady to put on just bra and pant to be viewed on TV. I can recall seeing beauty pageants walking on the run way on Silver Bird TV about this period. I said 'was' because to see one now, all you need do is put on the TV. Nude ladies are anywhere you see a music video.

I thank God for saving me early as I almost fell into the ditch of immorality. I began to read my bible more and cut ties with every source of porn.

Fast track to 2017. I am grateful to God I didn't become an addict in anyway. Notwithstanding, I can't still understand why a set of God-made humans would go naked for the camera. There are over 2 million cases of forced sex, child pornography, paid sex (in which the lady involved isn't aware of the recording) and so on.

Recently, it was reported that Nigeria and other African countries have a ridiculously fast growing porn market.
This is blamed on the level of joblessness of youths with Ghana and South Africa take the lead in the porn industry.
Apparently, it is no news that it is the poorest people and teens that are found in this act.

I am sharing this topic because of the tremendous number of porn I find in my daily encounter at work as a computer engineer. Lately, during data recovery of a client's Hard Disk, over 200gb of porn was recovered. I was so astonished that a human in the 21st century in his twenties would spend so much data and time downloading and viewing such content. Apparently, from my experience, one out of 8 people have porn on their PC.

Is porn that bad?
Yes it is. Very bad! I consider porn as a time waster. It makes the victim forget about really important things and waste time trying to dig deeper. It kills creativity and often leads to promiscuity. Porn affects mental health negatively.

I am not a saint but I need to say the truth. Porn often leads to deadly acts like sexual immorality, drugs, indulgence, addiction and lust.

80% of people who have porn on their laptops find it hard to complete their payments at once. I can not really say why this is. They probably spent more of their time lusting instead of being productive.

I am able to write this because I broke out and wasn't entangled in the big trap. With the advent of cheap smart phones, a teenager could just use google and land on a limitless repository of this life damaging content called porn.
Parents need to be on the look out and do more moral teaching. A porn addict is as unproductive as a drug addict.

Many youths struggle with it until they end up sexually and spiritually battered. From my research, a sexually battered person is a spiritually battered person.

Sex is a gift for productivity given by God. However, when overcome by lust, it becomes a curse in which a beautiful lady / handsome gem would have killed her/his aura and limited the chances of living a glorious life.

Besides this, sexual immorality severe ties with God and makes its victims unable to fulfil destiny.

I pray and hope that God saves the falling generation and grants us all the grace to keep a holy and acceptable life.

Share this so that someone who needs it will see it.
