Hanging about in Halong Bay
I love an adventure and a few months ago I took a trip to Vietnam. Have you been? Holy crap, the traffic is crazy... seriously crazy. It's so damn chaotic that it all seems to work well. I soon learned that the best way to cross a busy highway with traffic heading right for you is just to walk out in front of the cars and bikes and miraculously they manoeuvre around you.
I'd gone to Vietnam from Thailand as was doing a visa run and so combined it with a bit of a jolly. I decided to take a few days out of the madness of Hanoi and head up to Halong Bay in the north east.
This world heritage site is a formidable site to see. Well it would be more so if it had not been for the plethora of little cruise boats ferrying tourists like me about the place. That said the majestic limestone outcrops jutting up from the bay are quire ethereal and jaw dropping.
I opted for a two day cruise and when we dropped anchor on the calmest of waters and watched the sun going down it felt as far from the madding crowd as it could be.
