Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength - Charles Spurgeon

in #life6 years ago

In this quote, the ‘Prince of Preachers’ exposes the peril of worry. Rather than addressing our problems, anxiety merely prevents us from being fully equipped to meet them.

Those who have experienced such anxiety know the truth of Spurgeon’s words. Thankfully, Scripture has many relevant passages to show us the proper response to worry.

Philippians 4:6-7 instructs us as believers to:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

While Spurgeon’s quote points out the consequences of unchecked anxiety, the verse in Philippians offers us the Biblical remedy. By taking our cares to the Lord in prayer and thankfulness we can exchange our worry for an inward peace that comes from placing our concerns completely in His hands.
