MEMES are great. When used sparingly. Non-stop memes on everything irritates me. Am I the only one?

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Since this is a meme-related post, feel free to post your memes in the comments... I INVITE THEM.

BRAIN ROT...PLEASE USE WISELY..jpg

To be honest, I enjoy a good meme at the right time. They can be quite funny.

EXCEPT

When I see a non-stop scrolling page of memes.

  • Knock knock, who's there?
  • Why did the chicken cross the road?
  • Knock knock, who's there?
  • Why did the chicken cross the road?

Even knock knock jokes, and chicken crossing the road jokes aren't exciting anymore.

Memes have not lost their excitement yet. They're very popular.

When I see an overload of memes, eventually my laughter turns to irritation. I start to crave intellectual thought.... I soon start to wonder if humor has taken over the minds and IQ of people.

No, I'm not saying people who use constant memes are stupid. What I am suggesting is that sometimes I'd like to hear their thoughts expressed without just a cartoon graphic and only 1 or 2 sentences.

Memes are simple. They express an idea or concept without giving a lot of substance. You are left to assume why someone posted a meme, or what their reason was for feeling that way.

..if you ask the person who posted the meme their real thoughts on a particular topic, often you'll be met with another meme in exchange.

Ask a meme addict what their reasons were for posting a particular meme... your response might be:

"Using MEMES is my choice of expression...." (but even that reply would sent with yet another meme.)

HERE'S AN EXAMPLE

peanut-butter-sandwich_opt.jpg

  • I enjoy a great Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich every now and then. Very tasty as a treat.

  • If you feed me PB&J morning, noon, night, and everyday for 6 months, eventually I'm going to hate eating them.

Force feeding memes in everyday conversation starts to get old and dry.

There is a solution!

Use memes... they're great. Just not 100% of the time, or even 80% of the time.

Memes, like anything in life can be too much of a good thing. Don't stop using them. Just don't limit yourself to hiding behind memes all the time. It eventually will put you out of practice on how to communicate effectively.

Did you understand the point I was trying to make?

I CAN ONLY READ MEMES.jpg.png

Feel free to post written comments below, or memes.

Meme lovers are gonna plaster the comments with memes, and this is one venue where I encourage it.

I think one of the popularities of memes is that it's just too easy to find a meme in your long list of files on your hard drive. Click upload, and send. No typing required.

We're a meme based society these days. How long will this fad last?

GROOVY STUFF. Oh wait, no one says groovy anymore. :D

What do you think? Do you enjoy memes so much that you'd like to see even more memes on your screen everyday?

P.S. I'd like to thank https://www.decentmemes.com which is a new service for steem which enabled me to generate these memes. The announcement blog post about it is here. I think their service is great and will be quite popular. I just hope it's used in moderation.

Yup. Memes are ridiculously overused. I enjoy them but one of my biggest pet peeves is people have been saying "When you're so upset you can't take it..." and that's how the sentence ends, it doesn't end! When you're so upset you can't take it, what? People speak in memes now and it's simply a degradation of language. Just like George Carlin said, "If you can control language, you can control thought." Politically correct culture, now memes in pop culture, everything is getting dumber and it isn't an isolated action by any political group, they're all guilty. The powers that be want to dumb us down so we're smart enough to do our jobs but not wise enough to question the world and the information that's being given to us.

Just like George Carlin said, "If you can control language, you can control thought."

I like that quote. Very fitting in this case.

Thanks man. I live my life by many wise sayings and comedians hold a larger percentage than people would think but my mantra is this one.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
-Aristotle

Memes. Yeah, you are not the only one irritated by them.

I mean, how many times could a cat be funny enough?

Totally agree mate. Those constant memes are annoying as hell, but a great meme once a day or once a week can be funnyyy. Just not trying to create a meme out of anythingg. I get you

Thanks. When I posted this, I really hoped it wasn't just me. :)

But i have to admit alot of them are really funny hahah. But on steemit some people are making a meme out of everything so i feel ya mate

I see many users posting memes on exucstional and serious discussion blog, it only attracts flag, however memes are great in a post where there is humor and sense of laughter.

Hmmmm i wish I had the right meme 😁😁😁😁

You are correct. There are good places for memes, and inappropriate places for memes. Thank you for knowing the difference.

Thank you for the awesome blog post

I agree with you. I think meme might be good once a week or once a day @intelliguy

we_should_reduce_on_our_memes...jpg

We should indeed reduce memes especially on our Steemit blogs.

. Just don't limit yourself to hiding behind memes all the time. It eventually will put you out of practice on how to communicate effectively

People will not take you serious if all you can do is post memes!!!

Did somebody request a meme? ^_^

Actually I have mixed feelings about memes... Especially 60-second memes :cP

See a meme cheers the soul because it takes a smile, and if balanced way is good to use
