National Lollipop Day today! - celebrate with candy and confections or anything else sweet!
Not that we needed another silly day dedicated to something trivial, and I don't know who thinks of these things. Today's date has nothing to do with anything official regarding lollipops that I can find by various Internet searches that I have done this morning. I heard about this on the news this morning on one of those fun little morning news TV shows.
Some of these holidays, if you want to call them that, make sense like 7-11 day, because they actually started opening their business on July 7th. May 4th is a newer cool one, which is normally said as "May the 4th", which is more like "May the Force" as in the Star Wars phrase, "May The Force Be With You." This makes that day, Star Wars day in contemporary history.

The name "lollipop" came from a guy who trademarked the name of the candy, way back in 1931, after starting his journey making the candy become more mainstream, dating as far back as 1908.
People think about the "How many licks does it take to get to the center of Tootsie Pop", the "Lollipop Guild" in the Wizard of Oz, Kojak (a TV show from the 70's featured the main character often having a lollipop in his mouth) and of course the old song "On the good ship, Lollipop" from Shirley Temple. The girl shown above and below is not Shirley Temple, and is a friend of my girlfriend.
Some people have found that lollipops are good substitutes for smoking cigarettes when they first quit. In the picture above, she is using these particular ones as a dietary/fitness aid in curbing the urge to snack or eat something in between meals. She is a fitness model.
It looks like it works pretty well. :)
Enjoy these silly holidays or whatever you want to call them. Maybe they should just be called celebrations. If nothing else, they are something different to talk about at work or on social media that is fun instead of the politics and other things going that are so serious in life. To be honest, I am just happy that it is Friday...
