Actually I explore my own town a lot either way. But that's just because I like adventure.

Although, I DO do things that I don't normally do when I have guests.

I go over the top with cleaning for them and cooking breakfast. I don't ever ever ever cook breakfast. ever.

I may have to let that one go lol

LOL, you're such an explorer that I can definitely see you taking in the sites all by yourself no matter where you are! Don't toss out the joy of cooking for guests though, if it is something you enjoy. It can be a nice treat to have someone to take care off every once in a while.

I was just thinking about this yesterday, although more in reference to spending time with friends. When friends come from out of town, I work hard to see them because they'll be gone soon. The ones who live close, I don't tend to make as much effort, presumably because "I can see them anytime." I need to work on prioritizing who I see and when, but not taking for granted the fact that it's so easy to see certain people now. It won't be like that forever.

Great point! We do the same with taking for granted the people who are right here too.

Yah this true sometimes. But I think sometimes you give your friends those treats because you know that they like them, while you don't really bother about those treats for yourself because they don't really appeal to you.

Really good point!

So true! I lived 20 years in Puerto Rico and there are still places I have not gone and when I did go to some was to take someone else. Even more crazy is that now when I take the family, we try to go visit those places! I think it is like the old phrase “you never know what you have until you don’t have it anymore or about to lose it.” However, the last couple of years I have been trying to change and taking my family to new experiences as we have so many now being in the United States!

Puerto Rico! Can’t wait to go there. But that’s the kind of place I could be content to just go to the beach.

More than a few moons ago, I lived / worked in Manhattan for a 25+ year period. I really enjoyed showing the off-beat places to visiting friends (or clients), as well as the optimal ways of arriving to said spots (OK, and a wee bit of showing off re: my knowledge, the "inside skinny").
Did I ever go to the top of the Empire State Building or first World Trade Center on my own? Never crossed my mind...I believe this is because all the wonders of NYC were at my fingertips, within walking distance (great walking city), and I was just too busy!

Enjoyed this post, certainly provides food for thought. For example, I'm a hop/skip to a wide variety of museums & historical places in Philly. Been here 18-months and have yet to visit...why is that?

Yeah, I bet there is much for you to explore and enjoy right where you are now!

Get up! get out! GO!! Move faster.............
