3 Breakdance principles useful in everyday life
or what breakdance taught me for a better life.
you choose the clickbaity title
I decided it was time for me to pick up some dance moves.
It looks awesome is impressive and fun. At least at home when no one’s watching.
Whatever, dance like nobody’s watching.
“We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once.” This coming from Nietzsche.
So, a couple months back I went to a breakdance practice.
Of course, I was the only noob there. The best way to learn!
At the end of the practice session, the regular members were challenged to improve to some music.
Afterwards, the coach explained some basic, useful things to remember. As a helping guideline.
I realized you could use this wisdom for everyday life as well.
So, here we go.
Be present to the moment
The toughest thing to achieve, according to some of the greatest philosophical minds out there. Think stoicism and the likes.
But when you manage to be present and focus on the moment, it is heaven on earth.
Nothing else matters.
Only enjoying what is right in front of you. Taking it all in. Reacting to it and appreciating the positive energy.
Breakdancing is very similar.
You focus on the music, let loose and feel the energy flowing through your body.
Which leads us to doing what you feel.
Do what you feel
Steve Jobs said we should trust our heart and intuition because they somehow already know where we want to go.
Our intuition is a powerful tool.
Whenever you feel a strong pull towards a certain thing, a burning desire, you should probably give it a shot.
When breakdancing you sometimes have to turn off your mind and listen to your body. Let the energy guide you and go with the flow.
Same holds true to life.
We are not rational. Mind off, feelings on.
Switch it up or it’ll get boring
You’ll get stuck. Stay in one place.
Many people live the same year 75 times and call it a life.
That’s boring.
When you put yourself into new situations you can’t avoid growing. As a person.
Constantly in motion, always pushing forward, looking for new challenges and learning opportunities.
We tend to connect change with pain.
But the pain not to change is greater.
You won’t see any good BBoys repeatedly do the same moves. It ruins any good performance.
Likewise, you don’t want to fall into a routine and be stuck with the same experiences over and over.
Push for greatness by looking for change.
