Humans are the most bizarre creatures - Part 1- Why do people lie?
Humans are the strangest of the animal species on the planet. We all look different. We are from all sort of cultures, races, and even colors. The human species, are capable of doing such extraordinary things, and if we were able to use 100 % of our brain power, we would even be able to have superpowers. Wouldn't that be amazing?
We come in all sizes, and shapes... but..... the proof is in the pudding. Even though we are such an intelligent species, we often do the strangest and bizarre things.
We lie, cheat, gossip, and sometimes just do crazy things.
We are not perfect.....
So let us look at a few things humans do that no other living species on earth does:
Why do people lie?
I am specifically talking about humans here, because there are no other species on this planet that lies except the human being. Even though we are the superior species, we often lie about the weirdest and most unnecessary things.
People often lie about their age and weight. Many people lie to protect others from getting hurt or into trouble. Look at kids. If they made a mess and you ask them who made this mess, they will most surely tell you that it was not them. What makes people lie instinctively?
Have you ever lied to your partner? Are you always honest with him or her? If your partner asked you if they look good in a piece of clothing, would you lie to comfort them, or would you tell them the truth?
I don't think anyone could really explain why we lie, it must be some type of self protective and build in mechanism. Most of us have told a lie before, and even if it was just a little white lie, lying is still lying. Perhaps not telling the truth is a way to protect ourselves from being hurt, or to keep ourselves out of trouble?
“No one believes a liar. Even when she's telling the truth.”
Some people lie so compulsively that it becomes second nature. Pathological liars. Have you ever met a compulsive liar?
These kind of liars are afraid of the truth. They lie to make themselves look and feel better, because they have such a low self-esteem, and they fear what others may think of them. They tend to make up stories about themselves because they want these lies to be true.
Lies have a way of catching up with you and although we are programmed to be honest, and most people tell the truth most of the time, there are those that are so caught up in lying that they will never be free.
Lies always catch up with you.....
Many people live inside a lie. I will much rather live in my own environment with the little I have, instead of driving around in a fancy car to make people think that I have money. That is also a lie is it not?
Why are we like that? Why do we have to pretend that we are something when we are clearly not? It is time that we start realizing that we are just human, and although we are not perfect, lies will not get us anywhere. Stop deceiving yourself and be what you are. Life would be a much nicer place.
For one thing, we're not programmed to be honest. Lying is a learned behavior. People are naturally self-interested (see my post yesterday) and when they lie and gain from it, it becomes a part of their behavior. For example look at the Clintons... both are pathological liars and both have become extremely rich from it- why change?
I look at our existence here differently... this is a test to see where we spend eternity. If you want to lie and gain in this life, you can, but you sacrifice eternity (which is a really, really long time) It's all about short term gains vs long term gains... Personally, I'm in it for the long haul!
I disagree...I believe that we are programmed to be honest but I agree that it is a learned behavior. Very true what you said about our existence here on earth. It is only temporary and people are so involved in this little part of life...what is yet to come? When you are dead it is way too late to do something about where your spend eternity...I don't think anyone realize how long eternity is...
We're programmed for survival... if that includes lying, so be it. Lying is just a manifestation of selfishness and self-interest.
The thing is if people start lying to you and it becomes a habit, how can you ever trust them? I often listen to these liars in my life, (when I already know the truth) they are so self-convincing, they actually believe themselves. I wonder how they expect a person to have respect for their word. My parents taught us, "Your yes must be your yes and your no must be your no". I have included the word truth and trust in there.
I'm an orphan and have pretty much been on the streets all of my life... I learned a long time ago- don't trust anybody.
Can you tell us your story. Would like to know how you have made a difference in your circumstances if you don't mind!

Here's most of it
I am not an orphan but I also struggle to trust people.
That's wise... they can't be trusted!
Very true @frieda often we allow them to get away with lying not to hurt ourselves, then slowly but surely we lose respect and then the world is so much more messed up than what it is supposed to be...
It takes one lie to destroy all the truth you've ever told.
Sometimes people lie out of fear, some lie because they are used to it,but lie has never been a solution to any problem
Only one lie can destroy your whole world.
The ego makes one a liar for the masses. Control is the purpose for lies from the few...................
A wonderful article my friend. I have often thought folks lie for several reasons. 1) Insecurity in oneself to be honest and tell the truth. 2) low self -esteem. You find folks who tell the truth have a higher self esteem. They also contribute to the world in a positive way when the are honest. 3) Folks who lie are takers rather than givers. 4) they are selfish rather than selfless. Again a good read thanks. And I am not lying. LOL
Thank you for reading! I got to meet quite a few liars earlier in life...so I know exactly what to look for in a person...and I'm not lying now..lol
