I hope you enjoyed my series on Emotional intelligence.  Emotional intelligence is a subject close to my heart and I wanted to share all my knowledge with you as far as possible.

Critical thinking and emotional intelligence goes hand in hand with each other.  As time goes by, we tend to forget how to think and we become robots in our daily lives.  It is also a known fact that we need to stimulate our brains, so that we can think better and think outside the box.

Did you know that you can actually train your brain to think better and to look at things from a different angle?

To become a better athlete, you need to practice. Without the necessary practice you will NOT succeed in your goal.  A phrase that I use daily in Mathematics is PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.  If you want to be the best in something you need to train.  So if you could train your body physically then why not train yourself mentally?

What is critical thinking?

"Critical thinking is the ability and willingness to assess claims and make objective judgements on the basis of well-supported reasons. It is the ability to look for flaws in arguments and resist claims that have no supporting evidence. Critical thinking, however, is not merely negative thinking. It also fosters the ability to be creative and constructive to generate possible explanations for findings, think of implications, and apply new knowledge to a broad range of social and personal problems. You can't really separate critical thinking from creative thinking, for it's only when you question what is, that you can begin to imagine what can be."

How does the human brain work?

The human brain is one of the most complex organs, it contains billions of nerve cells or neurons that interact with each other constantly.  These neurons carry messages through a chemical processes.  Chemicals in our body like sodium, potassium and chloride ions move in and out of these cells to establish an electrical current.

How can we stimulate our brains?

1.  Get adequate sleep to let your brain rest.

A tired brain doesn't function properly.  You could even try to take a power nap in between your daily work.  Scientists have proven that a short nap during the day can improve your brain function.

2.  Read a book instead of watching a video

Although visual learners learn better by actually watching a video, it is quite important to stimulate your brain by using your imagination.  The best way to stimulate your brain is to read a book.

  • Reading stimulates your brain excessively and can even lower the levels of brain protein involved in Alzheimer's.
  • Reading can improve your memory.
  • Reading can slow down mental decline.
  • Reading lowers stress levels
  • Reading literary makes you more clever.
  • Reading helps with concentration.
  • Reading fiction can improve your creativity.

I am all excited to tell you more, but the rest would have to wait for the next post.  I hope you will follow this series with me and learn some more about how to improve ourselves mentally.
