The Many "Deaths" of the Steem Blockchain

in #life5 years ago

Well, the term "many" might be pushing it a little. How about a count of two so far. The first being back when Steemit was but a desolate wasteland and the price sat at around the 7-10 cents range. And then there was the untimely announcement from Ned that his company was effectively running out of money and subsequently had to let go of 70% of his staff. Both times, the STEEM blockchain was apparently knocking on heavens door. Fast forward to present day and gasp in awe at the absolutely staggering difference in sentiment and development. Put simply, the only way this measure of recovery can be beaten is if "Bitconnect 2.0" actually manages to work out.

However, the title of the post may still have a ring of truth to it. Because throughout STEEM's brief history of life, it has always had its fair share of naysayers, hellbent on calling for the demise of our blockchain. Be it from a negatively skewed reward structure, terrible retention levels or even some buggy future hardfork that may literally unravels the whole thing from the ground up. I've think I've read it all by now. Yet somehow, here we are, still hanging on in there. Scratch that. Here we are, thriving like a mofo! God bless blockchain technology otherwise had it been a traditional run-of-the-mill organisation on the high street, they would have shut up shop long ago. And it also must be noted, much of this turnaround has to do with the momentous efforts of a select few community members. Yes, I'm sure you know exactly who I'm talking about.

also, wouldn't it be funny if our current level of success if pissing Dan Larimer off no end. Imagine him wishing STEEM would just die but just keeps on getting back up, like some indestructible zombie in a horror movie. "A bullet to the head should do it!!" Nope, still standing I'm afraid. Because the long and short of it is that the past has shown us STEEM is one of the most resilient and stubborn-headed digital tokens out there. Pretty reassuring from a Steemians point of view, I'm sure you'll agree. In fact, myself and @exyle regularly refer to it as the "cockroach" of the crypto world. Possibly the nicest thing anyone could ever say about STEEM, given the context! :)

But don't get me wrong. This isn't the last of it. Not by a long shot. Now we've got the possible 50/50 reward change as well as downvoting pools and all sorts, on the horizon. Whether you agree with the changes or not, a few of those same old subject-mattered posts are once more doing the rounds. Could this spell the end of STEEM? Will this create an opportunity for competitors to show their hand? Will this lead to a mass exodus from our platform?

...To which I'd reply, "How long is a piece of string?". :)

I am a cockroach and a zombie of Steem!

Lol, that statement could only work here :))

I think Steem should be removed for reward pool and should become backbone token. Let's SMT/SCOT play with all sort of reward distribution algo experimentation. @palnet is already becoming a success story. Steem's supply (8.2% inflation) trumping its demand. If it had a 2-3% inflation, it would easily sit in top 30 in CMC rank.

Hey Ezzy,

I just finally got around to reading up on Hardfork 21 and I am not pleased about this 50/50 split.

Please have a look at my post and share it if you feel similarly. I do not think this is in the best interest of the network and the creators here. Sorry for the pester. I'm just so fired up about this change. Won't bother you again. Thank you in advance.
