My Mysterious Tree
I've been monitoring the evolution of this fantastic and interesting tree. Fist time I paid attention to this tree was in November last year.
This is how the bark looked like in November 2018.
This photo was taken in December 2018, as you can see the bark was peeling off.
Today I went to see the tree again and took this photo you see above. It looks like the bark is slowly forming again.
It's very odd, I don't understand why this tree is loosing its bark when the hardest period of the year begins. Winter can be tough here, sometimes temperature drops to -20C or even more. There were years when we had -27C. Nature is funny sometimes. Dogs change their furs so they can be prepared for winter and this tree is stripping his bark.
My research is not finished, I have to go back in a month or so to see what happens to it. I'll be monitoring its behavior for the whole year.
These trees are very old. I can't tell you how old they are but the main building was build around 1930 and I guess these trees are almost as old as the buildings. What I'm trying to say here is that they don't last forever. I've seen many trees cut out because they were almost empty inside. Old age is doing that to them. I would hate to see these gorgeous trees cut out. They look healthy from outside but you never know.
