A day in Red Frog Beach, Bocas del Toro.
Welcome to Red Frog Beach in Bocas del Toro, Panama.
As usual @evecab and I always try to visit a different place every Sunday within the archipielago where we live. Last Sunday the spot was Red Frog beach, which we actually didn’t visit for a while.
About Red Frog beach…
This beach has almost 1 mile of white sand, probably one of the most popular in the archipielago.
Even though Bastimentos is a big island and has several beaches, Red Frog is one of the most easy to access and the only one with a few bars and restaurants with toilets for visitors.
As you may suspect by its name, there are a lot of poison-dart frogs in Bastimentos Island, and you can see a lot of the little red frogs in the jungle by the beach.
Even though it’s a touristy area of that island, you don’t feel that you are in a crowded beach like in many tourist destinations of the world. You can always walk either to the east or west side and find a place where you can be by yourself. This is one of the things we love the most of Bocas beaches.
These are some of the bar restaurants we recommend in case you want to enjoy a fresh fruit smoothie or a nice cold Panama beer.
How to get there?
It is very easy to get there from Bocas town. It takes around 10 minutes by boat. You have to specify to your boat driver that you are going to the Red Frog Beach entrance, from where you will have to do an easy short hike across the jungle to get to the beach. It’s a 15 minute walk, but if you spend time enjoying the nature, and wildlife (if you are lucky), it will take you more of course.
Each boat ride to and from there cost $5 per person. Once at the entrance you have to pay a $5 entrance fee. Since it’s a private property, they have to keep the trail clean and maintained, so that it’s why there is a cost to enter.
