Marriage equality
In a very interesting turn in Australia's never ending marriage equality debate, the forces of conservatism (if not perhaps the majority of Christian leadership) are arguing that it is better for loving couples to live together outside of marriage than within the bounds of this most conservative of institutions.
The conservative voices are hemmed in a bit by the politics of the situation: they don't want to be seen to be anti same sex relationships, because that's not it at all (they argue). This is simply a question of whether this oldest of institutions should be expanded to allow couples of the same sex to marry. To them, the answer to this question is a resounding no. The rest of Australia seems to hold a different opinion, however.
Because, for political reasons, those against marriage equality are running this argument, it seems to me, as a punter, as an Autralian who made up my mind about this subject many many years ago, that they have kicked a huge own goal. They are willing to let the moral ground underlying the questions "should unmarried people live together?" and even "should unmarried people engage in sex?" shift even further away from their moral position supposedly ordained by GOD.
We all know these questions are meaningless in the contemporary world, except to the extremely conservative religious factions of most major religions, and their diminishing allies in secular society. But the unintended consequences of the marriage equality debate is making these outdated social positions ever more ridiculous.

well, i guess a a non meater eater, we kind of get the same shit as well. people need to be aware of the fact that we dont live in the 1500s anymore and that people want to be in control and make decisions without every damn govt official telling them what to do.
we have much bigger problem to focus on like fake food, war and corruption in our govt and institutions, but than again they make a big deal out of small quarry to keep the average person distract, just like the news and sport.
at the end of the day, your heart and mind will do what is best for it. nothing wrong with same sex marriage, it just becomes wrong when you start to hurt innocence.

Taking god out of the issue (which always seems a good idea to me), and looking at marriage as useful function of society, the issue is almost a moot one.
And therefore is entirely political.
The function of a family unit is the strongest, most stable, most psychologically healthy -for rearing offspring.
Marriage - as a tool of society - to maintain it's stable breeding stock - is a very good one.
One that, (without god interfering), appears to have been a basic human instinct as the most efficient way to achieve the optimum procreation quality.
I think this disruption to a 'natural order' of things is unhelpful to society as a whole. More than unhelpful, detrimental.
Leaving aside an adults (childish) need for confirmation of a societies approval, this is just another example of cultural marxism getting in the way of commonsense, and pushing for the breakdown of families.
Families being the main target of destruction.
Without the family being destroyed, the pushing of socialism, and all its evils, is doomed to failure.
(it is anyway, but hey. )

Amen! The only thing that keeps me going is that they'll all die off in a few years and we can finally get on with creating a more equal, inclusive society.

In my opinion theres nothing wrong with the same sex marraige. As long as these two hearts trusted, loved and have faith with each other. They choose what they want. Therefore instead of criticize why we just support them and so everyone is happy.
