A Different Kind of freedom/ Una Forma de Libertad Diferente

How I Got Here

When I was 14 years old, I remember listening to two classmates in school, talking about Greenpeace. I had a very negative attitude towards environmentalism, and an extremely limited perception on how the world works. I thought they were ridiculous. I neglected nature and ate only unhealthy foods. Later in my life I abused harmful substances like alcohol and cigarettes.

My mind opened up to the beauty and interconnectedness of the web of life after consuming an entheogen, years later. My ego died (I "became one with everything") and I began to literally see the trees breathe and interact with the environment and myself. I could clearly see how I was part of nature. This life-changing event triggered a process of building a healthier, greener and deeper life, in me.

So What's Freedom Again?

Everyone can have (and has) their own definitions of freedom, but no matter those terms, a plethora of different things stop us from achieving that state: our jobs, money, routines, excessive and/or unnecessary spending, reactions, anxiousness, fears, sadness, ways of doing things, health conditions, addictions, cravings, culture, ignorance, our minds, the way we get our food, and many other things. I've always wanted real freedom, and my experiences made me understand that I had to connect with the earth, work with (not against) nature and become self-sustainable to get where I wanted. But how could I do that? So about ten years into my slow transformation, I discovered my way: permaculture.

Why Permaculture

"Permaculture is a holistic, living-in-harmony-with-nature worldview, as well as technical approach for how to do so" - modernfarmer

Permaculture proposes three ethics that are perfect starting points to the long-needed changes in our current way of life (or is it way of death?): Earth Care, People Care, and Fair Share (or return of surplus to earth and people). Then come the permaculture principles:

Slow I Try To Go

I still have tons to learn and apply from permaculture, and I deeply long for a supportive community to work with and create a fragment of a new world, but there's no need to rush it. Things come in their own time.

The path I chose to walk morphs as it goes. Life twists into totally opposite or unknown forms if you are open to that. You never know what comes next. It's funny how now I am writing about my experiences on growing my own food in a concrete jungle (for now), and trying to motivate people to find their own green path, after I lived my life with no purpose. I totally thank nature for pulling me to her, for showing me her abundance and her beautiful ways. I have to be honest though, slowing down is not easy because I've been rushing for a lifetime.

- Lao Tzu

I have to tell you that when I found out about permaculture, I wasn't interested even half of how much I am today. I have changed drastically over the course of the last three years, and I can totally say I've become a totally new person in that short period of time. I've had hundreds of setbacks, but I still keep pushing little by little to a different kind of freedom. I wish you all the same.

Great to meet you @doodledanga, you are a lot like a lot of us in the world, once we realize what really matters, it seems everything else falls into place, and although sometimes it takes us a long time to get to where we are going, we always end up where we need to be! i love the picture you took, it is very beautiful, thank you for sharing.

Thank you too Charisma. The picture is not mine, it's a friend's. I'm in it :D
It's really nice to see that there are other people around that are trying to make a change and not only profit. The coolest part is that we are all falling into place with each other. We will succeed in making the world a better place for everyone.

I see that now. Either way it looks awesome there. I am definitely wanting to see change in the world, I love how the universe works, i was telling my friend the other day how cool it is here, almost like those toy crane machines, each of us guided this way or that to make connections with like minded people, I know it's an odd analogy but that's the way my mind works at times. Hope to see more of your travels and would love to learn more

If we had more farmers we could all enjoy nice organic food every day instead of the industrialized chemically polluted rubbish that we are currently gorging ourselves into obesity with.

We are poisoning ourselves and the earth with all the garbage we eat. Many don't realize how something as simple as choosing the right lunch can have a positive impact on us all. Our ways are not okay. More farmers would totally help us all, professor.

Thanks for your support and for your comment :)

Nice informative post, I have seen more and more people talking about permaculture. I found your site via a resteem/mention from @wanderlass Minnow Fridays post.

It's a very needed thing in our world, bro. We can't just continue hitting on momma earth and not be responsible for her, not take care of the land, the animals, the soil. We deserve peace. We deserve freedom. So why not design sustainable conscious living with permaculture? :D

Thank you for reading!
