The Crisis: Global Mass Migration

in #life7 years ago

Good day steemit friends, i will be taking a break from posting on sustainable development today, instead i will be posting on migration.
History has it that humans have been migrating from the beginning of creation. Since the end of the last ice age, humans have wandered as far as they could exploring every nook and cranny of our world. The current trend of migration is the migration of people of developing nations to developed nations, that is Least Economic Developed Countries (LEDC) to More Economic Developed Countries (MEDC).
International Migration is at his peak and shows no indication of slowing down anytime soon, this is because of the challenges some parts of the world are experiencing; terrorism is at its peak, civil war has made many people to flee their country of residence, oppressive regimes, financial crisis among others.

On the continent of Africa citizens such as Nigeria due to its terror insurgency in the Northeastern part of the country has made many of its citizens to move to neighbouring because of terrorism. About 4.3 million people have been displaced by this incident many of them in neighbouring Chad, Cameroon and Niger republic leading to pressure on these economically ravaged nations. Eritrea has one the highest number of migrant refugees going to Europe from Africa, the oppressive dictatorship in Eritrea have made life difficult for it citizens by imposing compulsory military service and also the bad state of the economy is responsible for the mass exodus.
Another reason is that most of the people living in Sub-Saharan Africa believe the only way they can make a better living is outside of their shores, they vision Europe as their only way out of the misery of poverty making them all to venture on the dangerous journey of crossing the Mediterranean where many lives have been lost. Citizens of Nigeria, Senegal, Gambia, Ghana and other West African countries have fallen into slavery in Libyan detention centres because of the dangerous ambitious adventurous Journey they have embarked on.
In the Middle-East the civil war in Syria and the latter terror insurgency have led to serious humanitarian crisis displacing millions of people from the country, it is said to be the worst humanitarian disaster to have ever happen after world war two. Most of the Syrian refugees they escape the civil war move to refugee camps in Turkey with the hope of making it to Europe or America, those who have money pay smugglers while others travel by road and on foot.
Another migration crisis is the Rohingya Muslims who have been persecuted by the Myanmar government prompting mass migration to neighbouring Bangladesh.

Over 55 percent of those taking the dangerous journey originate from countries beset by war or generalized violence or having repressive governments, such as Syria, Afghanistan, Eritrea, and Iraq.

What is a way out?
There are measures which can help control this migration crisis, some of which is meintioned below.

  • Increasing development in Sub-Sahara example world bank and IMF entrepreneurship loans, construction of basic infrastructure and also poverty alleviation schemes
  • By putting an end to reppressive governments such as the government of Eritrea.
  • The global community should assist countries fighting extremism, so as to avoid the collapse of this government.
  • Economic alternatives should be provided for smugglers to dissuade them from people smuggling.

from another perspective:
Migration would be safer if it was legal
Migration is a right
Humans have feet for a reason! we are not trees
why make those rules(like visas) to prevent people from shoosing where to live ?
no human is illegal if we apply that, migration will be something as normal as tourism, not "a disaster"

Migration is our right, but in a situation whereby those who are emigrating do not worth granting visa or asylum. For example, in my country, I know of many who have no skill or educational background trying to get to Europe by lying to the world that there is an ongoing war in my country which is a very big lie.

Ok who's to blame if they had no other chance to get in if they dont lie?
they probably "have no skill" but do you think every european citizen has "a skill" ?
What's the difference between them other than the pace they were born in? (which was not their choice by the way)
PS: I mean no offence I just wanted to debate because I find this topic very interesting and I can easily relate to those emigrants.

I agree, I've been migrating my whole life around the globe. No one has a right to the place they were born, the Earth isn't a gold-rush where you stake your claim and then fight everyone who comes too close. Earth is a public transport we spend our time in from cradle to grave. Like a bus or an elevator. When more people come on the elevator, you scoot over so everyone gets as much space as they need to survive, otherwise you're an asshole. Imagine a couple assholes who got on the elevator at the top floor, going down. They demand that half the space is theirs, and everyone else has to squeeze into a corner, no matter if they suffocate and die. That's what the West, particularly America, is doing today. BTW Americans want to really keep America for Americans? Then give it back to the natives.
