Jamaican animator with numerous awards ( How can I help him do crowdfunding?)

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Hey Steemians,

Today I'm gonna introduce you to my Older brother, Kevin Jackson AKA NIVEK. He does so many things its not funny. He is a:

  • Karate champ
  • Member of the Jamaica fencing federation
  • Leader of Jamaican animation nation.
  • Web designer
  • Film maker
  • Actor
  • Voice actor
  • Writer
  • And more

Today we will focus on his animation.

Believe it or not, my bro Kevin self taught himself to animate and actually landed a gig with the government doing recycle/keep your island clean ad campaigns. He recently did some online courses to beef up as he knows how the world works, the piece of paper is a necessity to get through the door. Here are some of the ads below.

How cool is that? His ads play on TV and at the cinema regularly. Pretty nice resume asset " Yeah I did that ad for "Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica."

Recently he has been trying to get an animation series off the ground based on Jamaican history about the Maroons who were slaves that ran away from the plantations and formed their own communities in the hills and mountains of Jamaica. It is a very important part of Jamaican history, you would think the government would found a project like this to preserve history and showcase Jamaican creativity.

My brother along with his partners have won numerous awards for his films and animation especially Abeeku and the Maroons. It's like every month I hear of a new award and see his face in the papers. Here is the latest award for best animation at Gattfest.

At the moment he only has one full episode of Abeeku and the Maroons as he is the illustrator, animator and voice for all characters. I know my bro will get the founding he needs to take this series to the next level. Can't wait to see how this project unfolds.

Here is my bro and his partner talking about Abeeku and the Maroons. If you have any ideas of how they could crowdfund effectivley let me know by commenting below. I would say use steemit but I'm not sure this is the place for that, or is it? Lets do a mastermind and get my bro's series to the masses.

Thanks for reading

Hi.Mr.Dean.
Long time no see.I am your students , in OES !
Do you remember me ? How are you ??
I started Steemit . I'm happy to find you.
Let't get in touch !!

HEEYYYYYY Glad you are here man. Really happy you took the steps to join steemit. I can imagine you are enjoying Thia now. I'm gonna look at your blog and mail you later. Keep on steemin bro.

Hello @dmilliz, thank you for sharing this creative work! We just stopped by to say that you've been upvoted by the @creativecrypto magazine. The Creative Crypto is all about art on the blockchain and learning from creatives like you. Looking forward to crossing paths again soon. Steem on!

Thanks a lot, I will look into this project:)

I dunno man, why can't he just try having a go at using regular crowd funding campaigns on kickstarter and the like? Surely if there are restrictions for people domiciled in Jamaica, there shouldn't be any for you in Japan.

Usually, when I'm at crossroads like these, I scale up, in the sense that I start by identifying friends and family who can share my dream, and of course, they get rewarded, most likely than not.

After that, I try to identify individuals that might have interest in funding such initiatives. Rich folks have interesting passions. Yeah, I know he's in Jamaica, and things might not be so great over there... But it's always worth a shot... Perhaps, you could also become a consultant and see what you could do for him over there.

Alternatively, he/you could see if you can get interested parties on the steemit blockchain to invest/support... Will be interesting to see how far its use can be stretched. Note that support doesn't have to be only in monetary terms.... Voicing over, pro bono animation... Just getting people to donate their time. At least, I've seen someone get people to sing his songs or something like that on here.

Lastly, there is this website I came across recently.

You can find team members and stuff, advisors to help make that dream come true.

Interestingly, there is a contest for entrepreneurs.... Submit your ideas, compete to get funded... Grand prize is £50k I think... Doesn't cost anything... He could check that out. I think it's still open.

If he does win, just keep my shareeeee.

Almost forgot to drop the website... https://www.worldlabs.org

All the best to him.

Cheers

@solcross thanks for taking the time to share your ideas man. Much appreciated. All solid points, he did the crowd founding things but not all were available in Jamaica, but to tell the truth I don't even remember seeing them. I need to really dive into how he is really doing this and see where I can help out . Sit down and plan out things together.

I really feel something can be done right here on steemit and you have gave some ideas, doesn't have to be about money, just effort put in our contacts.

He has the idea to showcase it at the Jamaican festivals here in Japan, so I shall surely get that done, and see where some crowdfunding could be done here as well.

Gonna tell him to check out that site.

You've made me realize something very important though, I need to take more of an active role in his project.

Thanks man .
