#goodtoknow: Your Body on MEDITATION (Set free your internal drugs)

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Meditation is the most common way to connect the mind with the world around us in absolute oneness. A regular practice can calm your brain and immune system. It is even proved to increase the health of your heart. I will list a few other benefits:

Brain

After a couple of weeks of regular meditation activity in the right amygdala is decreased which is associated with a better stress response.

Mind

Meditation engages neural systems which is associated with amplified empathy. Also memory and focus is improved massively. Not to forget the reduction of anxiety and fears.

Heart

With the help of proper breathing the heart gets to work in optimal condition which can very important to prevent a stroke. You may even reduce your blood pressure.

Fat

For all you guys who want to reduce some belly fat: By meditating you can lower the stress hormone cortisol helping decrease belly fat.

"So, Caspar, you mention all these benefits but how can I start? Plus I can't sit still for more than a minute. I will never be able to meditate!"

Caspar: Oh don't say this, I will give you two very simple techniques. But remember that great things take time. And the key is persistence.

Type 1 (First 3 steps can take place everywhere and can also only be like 30 second sessions):

  • Close your eyes
  • Inhale with your nose
  • Only focus on breathing
  • Advanced: Do this in a quiet place and sit down doing the steps above. Additionally you count from 100 down to 0. When you reached 0 you start again from 30 downwards. You have to let happen what happens. Don't get excited or judge your mood. Just enjoy the emptiness.

Type 2: Cold Shower Meditation

*Before you switch the water to the coldest you take a deep breath.

  • Then you focus on breathing calmly. Eyes closed is beneficial.
If you focus on your breath only you begin to forget the pain of the cold water or you get used to it.

As you can see meditation is actually nothing else than focusing on your breath/nothing. Because the breathing is so rooted in the stem of the brain it gets a no brainer and begins to feel as you focus on nothing. If you achieve this state of emptiness in your brain and mind you will start to better yourself in many aspects of life.

Let me know your thought and experiences on this topic. And I encourage you to participate in the discussion below.

If you liked it please

and resteem to share the knowledge of meditating.

Regards,
Caspar

I'm encouraged as usual, this is a great topic I really like it.. the cold shower is a new trick to me and I've been into meditation for years now. I'll have to give it a try, but I know how it might work as your focus on your breathing helps slow down your breathing and even slightly slows your heart rate. Diverting the attention away from the cold shower. Which doing so for the long term would work wonder on the body. Looks like monks training to me.

I'm more into the silent sitting and contemplating meditation and different forms of yoga in order to unlock different chakra points in the body.

nice! i also like to train breathing: filling up the body with oxygen via hyperventilating and then enjoying the excess of oxygen in the cells, you can easily be without breathing for two minutes and more. check out wim hof on youtube, he is a crazy guy! :D

thanks for your engagement!

Great post, for me personally I find that meditation helps reduce anxiety and stress in everyday life. I am just getting back into meditation, I used to do it somewhat regularly but am still an amateur. It sounds like you know quite a lot about the topic. How long have you been practicing meditation? Also do you believe that if you practice meditation long enough you can begin to manifest things in your life?

i started 4 years ago and i actually only do the 1-2 min of cold shower and calm breathing. i believe that you will attract positive things with your positive mind and this positive mind you surely get from meditating :) which techniques do you use?

When I meditate I usually sit in a quiet place and then try to clear my mind and focus on my breathing. Spotify also has some good meditation material that I listen to. I tried meditating while lying down but found I get tired quickly.

yea sitting is probably the best ;)
