A Path to Being #2: The Beginning

In order to have a state of Becoming, one must find the path to inner peace. But what is inner peace? What does it mean? Some say that inner peace is having a spiritual calm despite external pressures or adversarial problems. Others say it is a peace of mind. Here are some very famous quotes on inner peace by well known leaders:

“Nobody can hurt me without my permission.”
Mahatma Gandhi

“Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.”
Gautama Buddha

“Learning to distance yourself from all the negativity is one of the greatest lessons to achieve inner peace.”
Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

“We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.”
Dalai Lama XIV

“Pleasure is always derived from something outside you, whereas joy arises from within.”
Eckhart Tolle

When we are born, we are free to take in all the stimuli around us. We don’t have any prejudices, preconceived notions or judgements. Everything is new to us and we are a clean slate. We are happy and free and hungry to learn. We are like the wind, flying through space and time, taking all visual, olfactory, taste, tactile & auditory inputs into our being. We learn to experience our surroundings as they enter our awareness. We were happy then.

Then soon after our initial introduction into our new existence, we get influenced by our families, friends, acquaintances, and peers to modify our spirit with what people call “socially acceptable behavior.” We are taught to color within the lines, sit properly, eat with our mouth closed, don’t talk with food in our mouth, play nicely, etc. Gradually our free spirit becomes less free and our connection to our inner being narrows.

As we grow, we are expected to conform more to what society expects. We follow rules, we work harder, we focus on materialistic goals, we share less and become more greedy, we spend less time with things we enjoy, we stress more, we take more medication, we sleep less and less deeply, we make judgements, form prejudices, we get headaches now, we get depressed and discouraged, we play mental games with each other, we manipulate, we scheme, we hurt others, we become more self serving, we become selfish and self absorbed.

Wow, what has happened to us since we first entered our world in which we live? Are we happy? Are we content? Are we healthy both physically and mentally? Are we proud of what we have become? Are we satisfied with life? Have we reached a point where we say, enough is enough? Are we ready to change, to become better beings? Have you finally gone through enough, where you finally say, “I want to reconnect with my inner being”?

I have finally reached this point where I have to stop the madness and start trying to find myself again. My first blog post was called, “A Path to Inner Peace”. I never could continue it, because I had reached a major block in my life path's journey. Something did not allow me to even look at this post again. Was it life's stresses or my self made pressure to do Steemit. Then after a month, I tried again, switching from inner being to, “A Path to Being.” Once again, I couldn’t move past this major obstacle I had. I guess one has to reach rock bottom in order to be motivated enough to try to take a step back and then take two forward to reverse this downward spiral.

I found that once I was able to reach this acceptance, of where I was at, I actually had an “aha” moment. I found that by truly letting go, by writing this article, was my first step to being able to reconnect to my inner peace. So I will continue my path to being in a short series. It may be slow, with major obstacles in my way, to challenge my progress down life’s path, but I will strive to push forward. I will also continue my other series because it makes me happy. I hope you will check on my “Down Memory Lane” about the 60’s and “My First Travel Abroad: Japan.”

I appreciate your interest in this post and look forward to working with you on Steemit. May your week ahead be stress free and happy! Thank-you for visiting my post! If you would like to see other posts that I have created, please click HERE.

Great article. It is something that everyone should read! The first step is always the hardest. Congratulations for taking it! I wish you all the luck in the world!

Thank-you so much @akemirayko! I had hit that point where I had nowhere else to go but up. I needed to release my inner feelings and once I did, I felt lighter than what I have felt in a very long time. There are times when I get so confused by how people have changed so much, driven by money or self absorbed propensities. I appreciate your constant support and wonderful comments. Thank-you again Akemirayko! :D

What a WONDERFUL post! You've written down things I have felt but never could express. I can easily see you going far out into the stratosphere with your inspirational writing. You do have a way of making the reader feel like you are in a one on one conversation.

I love the quotes and will be committing them to memory. They will be used in daily mantras and meditation. Thank you for the perfect reading :)

@tamaralovelace, I am so glad that my post helped a bit. I really had hit a point in my life where I finally decided to write from my inner essence. Too long have I walked a path that was safe but hard. Having to experience various people who were self serving and negative, I realized that I didn't have to accept my given situation any longer. Like I had said, I had an "aha" moment. Ever since then, I have been able to tap into my inner self and just express what I think, using writing and posting as a means to do this.

Tamaralovelace, it is really a wonderful way to release inner emotions and what I think to be truisms. I really have been just sitting at my computer, letting my fingers do the talking. Most people write journals but I never was good at handwriting. I found that this is just like writing in a journal but letting people read it at the same time.

Thank-you for your wonderful support. I don't want you to feel that you have to read everything I write and voting. Please don't worry. I just love being so free to express. It is like flying for me! Your are a great and good person who I admire very much. I'm glad you will start writing when you have more home time. It really helps to release everything including frustrations and joys. Have a wonderful weekend and get some relaxation too! :D

It was a very wonderful post!
“Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.”
― Gautama Buddha
I am a Buddhist.Although it may seem that it is very small,If you really wish for peace, each and every one has to change.Change of mind is the most important.I'm very happy that you posted wonderfully:)

Thank-you @yoshiko! Your words are wise and appreciated. I've always wanted to find inner peace but I first needed to express my inner turmoil. Releasing such inner energy was my first step to finding peace. I will continue to endeavor to seek meaning, purpose and a better flow in life. Please have a wonderful week ahead! :D

It's the constant battle that drains energy. Letting go is the right move.
Writing it all down liberates all that space inside.
Great post. I wish you peace and serenity.

Thank-you molometer. I finally was able to express what I needed. In life there are all types of people and personalities. Some sincere and kind, others with false facades. I am back on point with my goal to find inner peace which brings me happiness. I'm trying to change my approach to Steemit by producing better posts than what I was posting. This paradigm shift hopefully will be good for me. Thank-you so much for your wishes of peace and serenity. It is much appreciated.

Inner peace is what I am seeking for so badly and every time I think, "now I've got it" and start relaxing, some new challenge presents itself. "We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves" this quote is my biggest obstacle and I try to strive every day to do a little better than the day before, relaxing and reminding myself that everything does not need to be perfect. Thank you for your wise words which always encourages me and gives me peace. Keep smiling lovely lady!!

I know you will find inner peace one day. Our journey in life is a path that is rocky and curvy but as you travel down the road, you will be getting closer to it. I have been on this journey for a very long time and as I age, I know that I am still far away but getting closer. My writing has really helped me to express myself so it has really helped to find some inner peace. I wish you better days ahead and a less stressful life. It is not easy going to school and being a mother and provider. You're headed in the right direction. My wishes go out to you! :D

Just like Gandhi's words, there is more to life than increasing its speed.
I think that there is time to stop and think more. Modern society is seeking too much speed.

I totally agree with you. Life has totally gotten so rushed and busy, that it is at times, too overwhelming. Gandhi was a very wise and honored man. Thank-you again Kinakomochi!
